"Everybody's got something to say about your life and choice you made They see the world through tired eyes, and we refuse to live in black and white And I'm not on anyone's side Feel free to count on me I don't believe in anything I'm so sick of everything" Everybody will try and tell you how to live your life, their minds poisoned by social standers, but we rebel against living like that. Frank's mind is tainted like that, so you can count on him to give a logical answer and not something inspired by the media. He is very tired of this kind of thing. "Everybody's got something to say, and they wonder why you run away They're trying to steal your innocence, and fill your head with their ignorance The truth is I'm just fucking existing The truth is I'm just trying to survive The truth is I got a problem listening The truth is I'm getting by" Everybody tries to have a say in your life and opinions, and when you leave they're usually offended. They're trying to take away your unique thoughts and creativity and fill your head with the ignorance of modern media. He's just trying to live a simple life and get by, no matter what the critics say. "Everybody's got a fucking scheme, to steel our hearts right from our sleeves But I'm at peace with who I am, and I'm at war with my own head I'm not unlike you, I just dislike you I'm not pathetic, I'm just sympathetic" Everyone has a plan for how you should live your life or how to change your opinion, to steel your individuality and passion away from you. He's at peace with what he's passionate about but there's a conflict in his head still. He isn't unlike these people, he dislikes them. They call him pathetic for the things he does but he believes he gives out sympathy with his work. (I believe this to be true, since I feel like I'm not alone when I listen to fiatc) "Everybody's got something to say, so concerned with the life I've made You wear us down with your fear and hate I'm unimpressed but I'm getting weak The truth is I'm just fucking existing The truth is I got the will to survive The truth is I got a problem coping The truth is we'll all be fine" Everybody is always trying to change the way he's living or tell him he's made bad decisions because they're scared and hateful of unique success.Everything will work out and be fine. "Enough is enough I give up We live our lives our own way I feel sorry for the choice you made I'm not pathetic, just sympathetic I'm not pathetic, just empathetic" He's given up trying to explain what they are doing is wrong, trying to tell us how to live, and simply states that we live our lives how we want and he feels sorry for people who decide to keep up with the standards set by the media. |

(IGNORE THE LAST POST I SENT IT EARLY) To me, it's very clear this song is about MCR's breakup. "If we wait, it may be too late We'll make everybody cry, we wouldn't even have to try But if we stay, we may overstay out allotted time and it just wouldn't feel right But I only speak the truth And I'll always bleed for you" If they wait any longer is just going to make the pain of the breakup worse, they wouldn't even have to try to make the fans cry because it's already so tragic that this long running band would break up. If they stay a band any longer it wouldn't feel right to them because they think that the band's time is up. He's being honest about this, and there will always be a place in his heart for MCR, or he'll always 'bleed' for it. "So let's laugh, let's learn to laugh at ourselves again And let's love, let's hate what our love makes us do" They want to be independent and free, not held down by the weight of the band and it's problems, they want to be able to laugh again. They put so much love into the band and now the band is over, figuratively hating it because I don't believe Frank really hates the bands work, he's just a bit salty about it. "If I try, I may have to try my entire life and that just doesn't sit right But if I fall flat on my face, then may my bones break under my own weight But I only want the truth, and that's one thing you can't do" He doesn't want to have to always be associated with the band, he wants to move on and not have to try and be a part of something he's not. He wants to do solo work, but if it fails it will be him to blame, aka he will break under his own weight. He wants the truth from his fans on his new work but he doesn't trust our honesty because 90% of his fans are MCR fans and will follow and like his work no matter how good or bad it is. "Sometimes when the world goes round, somethings just don't change Sometimes it leaves me feeling old" There is no way of changing or reversing the breakup. The band being in the past makes him feel old because the band was were his spent a lot of his young adult years. "I understand why you couldn't stand another day standing in your way" He gets why Gerard Way had to breakup the band at the time he did. "So let's laugh, let's learn to laugh at ourselves again And let's love, I love what my hate makes me do" Again with the whole moving on and laughing again. The second line change though, this time he is saying he loves his new music, and he makes the music from hate. |

| I remember reading something about how if he was a superhero his name would be Zero or something like that. This song might have some deeper meaning but I think it's about a superhero names Zero. | |
| Gerard Way – Brother Lyrics | 10 years ago |

"Does anyone have the time to bring me down? And can I sleep all night long to the drums of the city rain? Just make it up Cuz I'm awake all night long to the drums of the city rain" This refers to the lifestyle of band members, always out and about and never really having the time to stop and think or take a break, chaos. "And brother if you have the chance to pick me up? And can I sleep on your couch to the pound of the ache and pain? I'm my head cuz I'm awake all night long to the drums of the city rain" Mikey, Gerard's brother, is comforting to him. Mikey is a pick me up for Gerard and helps him get through the pains of the fast paced life that they were living in when they were a part of MCR. "The lights we chase The nights we steal The things that we take to make us feel this I can't go back Don't think I will I won't sleep tonight as long as I still Hear the drums of the city rain" The chorus is my favorite part of this song. The first two lines refer to them living the high life, how great it is being on the top of the world. The next two lines, 'the things that we take, to make us feel this' are about Mikey and Gerard's drug/alcohol addiction, how they felt like they needed to use these substances in order to feel good. 'I can't go back, don't think I will' Is about how they have recovered and moved on from that. The last two lines are about the memories and how he regrets abusing substances. "Does anyone have the guts to shut me up? Cuz I believe that every night There's a chance we can walk away So hold on tight Because I won't wait too long in the drums of the beating rain" I think Gerard was trying to say there is always a chance to get better, to walk away from whatever is holding you back from living a better life. "Cuz the nights don't last And we leave alone Will you drive me back? Can you take me home?" No matter who comes and goes, Mikey will always be there for him. "Faces I don't know I am tired in the glow Of the freezing glow Keep me breathing don't make the lights come back Can you take me home? We all need this when we leave alone" This is also about My Chem, the ending of them that is. 'Faces I don't know' is the large amount of fans, and being 'tired of the glow' is him not feeling it anymore onstage. As most My Chem fans know, during the end of MCR he was drinking again, so 'Keep me breathing, don't make the lights come back' is him saying that he can't do MCR anymore without being depressed or using drugs/alcohol. Lastly, the bottom two lines of this portion are, again, how even when the band is over or when Gerard is suffering, Mikey will be there for him. "Remember when you and I would make things up? So many nights, just take me down to the place we would hear them play I miss that sound Cuz now we don't sing so loud To the drums of the city rain" He has lost the spark that came with MCR, he has no more creativity and he misses being able to express himself like he used to. 'Cuz now we don't sing so loud, to the drums of the city rain' is him losing touch with MCR. "Like strangers laugh and like subways feel Things I'm trying to break Oh, just wait until this is all we have to keep us ill I won't breathe tonight as long as I still hear the drums of the city rain" The memories about MCR but more importantly his depression and addiction makes him feel uneasy. In no way was this ment to seem like Gerard is dissing MCR. All I'm saying is that there were bad parts, obviously a song dealing with addiction and all wont be about the good times. IN NO WAY IS ANY OF THIS INFORMATION CORRECT OR INCORRECT, IT IS ALL MY INTERPRETATION OF THE MEANING AND NONE OF IT IS CONFIRMED AS FAR AS I KNOW. I hope my opinions aren't too far off and this helped some people better understand the message of the song, or at least the message I got. |
