Cold War Kids – First Lyrics 8 years ago
This song reminds me of that feeling when you get so close or intimate with someone, maybe it's a relationship or something that happened in the moment...but then it's all over the next day. The person stops communicating and you are left confused how something so wonderful just ends. To me, the song really outlines confusion and trust. When I heard it, I could definitely feel a connection.

@[Floydman444:2608] If you like the song remains the same, then check out "how the west was won", LZ's live album LA 1972...I think it's even better then TSRTS! Of course, buy the CD because mp3's are rubbish quality :)

Bad Company – Shooting Star Lyrics 9 years ago
@ Saga-- Can't be about Bonham because he died in 1980. This song came out in 1975. Not about Elvis either, because he passed in 1977. Most likely regards Hendrix. Could also be Jim Morrison if we want to start guessing.

Either way, it's essentially a generalized narrative of the characteristic rise and fall of musicians as they reach excesses. I think the point is, it doesn't really matter who it's about as you can apply it to any musician who has followed this trend.

Rather - the idea that fame is quite superficial; as a society we only see the external shell of the musician, sort of oblivious and over-assuming everything is fine and going perfectly. That in a sense the idealization of what we all could be; they've made it in life. The song is told from a third person perspective; almost like a close friend to the protagonist or a spectating fan. There's isn't really a degree of emotion in the lyrics themselves (in the narrator's voice there is, but not in what he's saying)-- it's very straightforward with the story which consequentially provokes confusion, anger, saddness, melancholy, disbelief, etc, in the friends, family, fanbase, and media when someone sporadically dies at their prime.

And of course, you have drugs and often time away from home as the lyrics describe...which aren't a good thing when prolonged. You see this in so many famous musicians because they become bored...between constantly touring and travelling, and need something to cope with their loneliness and curiosities. Of course, money isn't ever an issue for them. There's a degree of social detachment in becoming publicly idolized, from being disconnected from the standardized life of everyone else.

Great song, very evocative of the joy and sadness associated with losing someone. Also, for how simple of a song it is, it still remains incredibly unique and outstanding from many of the other cliche rock songs out there.
