It's not JUST about rape, though (and gang rape, at that). They kill the girl ("hold her down until she stops breathing") at the end of it. And I think we can take it a step further. The narrator knows the girl, at least a little. They're worried about her being able to ID them afterwards, and possibly having to be arrested and stand trial for it ("and I would have a hard time facing you...this crime...the shame of what a man can do"). I think that it's not until the rape is over that he realizes that there's no way out. They HAVE to kill her. |
