It's Dylan singing about his heartbreak about his former girlfriend Suze Rolto, who went to Italy temporally and decided not to return home and break up with him. Parts like:
"Oh, but if I had the stars from the darkest night And the diamonds from the deepest ocean, I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss, For that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin'."
shows how much he was willing to give up for her and how he cant understand how easily she's giving him up. In the song you can tell she is giving up however he's still holding on and how shit that can be. Great song :) |
