R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics | 5 years ago |
When I was 17 I fell in love with an 18 YO women, but did not have the maturity to initiate or maintain a romantic relationship with her. I knew the situation for what it was, but continued to pine for her anyway. This song is about an unrequited love. The singer is in love with a women but does not yet have the maturity to begin or maintain a relationship with her. He may even be self aware of the fact that although he desires this woman, he will have to wait for his own personal growth in order to love either her or anyone for that matter. His obsession with her was an emotional outlet until he has the maturity for a real relationship, making the women a simple prop to occupy his time until he has the emotional maturity for a real relationship. Because people are always moving and evolving, the singer eventually moved on and so did the object of his affection. Even though he has moved on or the woman has moved on in his life, he is honoring or respecting her by dedicating this song to her memory, |
Aerosmith – Walk This Way Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I must admit I was agry at Aerosmith for many years for the rap version of this song. If Leonardo DaVinci defaced the Mona Lisa, he would still be arrested for vandalism if it is no longer his painting. Never mind that he created the artwork. WTW is not different. Recently a friend in the industry explained to me that the rap version was critical to Aerosmith's relaunch in the 1980's, so I have softened my stance. This song is about the sexual awakening of a young man. He is very excited about "getting to third base," as walking in this context is about fingering a girl with two digits. Of course going down on a muffin doesn't need nearllly as much explanation. The song takes us through the a progression of the a young boy's early sexuality. First, he is masturbating (backstroke lover) then he is seeking girls his own age when he met a cheerleader who was a real young bleeder. In the last verse, he finally makes his move and gets his conquest. After all the masturbation, advice from others and talking about sex, he finally takes a big chance at a high school dance with a missy who was ready to play He ends with my favorite line in that he wasn't surprised and in fact was delighted that her knowledge of managing female genitalia was at the Instructor level. |
Ozzy Osbourne – So Tired Lyrics | 8 years ago |
When this song came out, I would put on the record or cassette and ask people to listen and guess who the singer was. Very few people guessed Ozzy, but it was fun hear what people would guess. I would never play this game with real Ozzy or Black Sabbath fans. This song is about vying for a women;s love only to come in second place. In some respects this is worse than an unrequited love in that the forlorn lover knows what he is missing and it hurts. I was 18 when this song came out and my takeaway was that EVERYONE is susceptible to heartbreak; even the Prince of Darkness. Not an big insight to me know at the age of 50, but a decent warning to me as a teenager. |
The Beatles – When I'm Sixty-Four Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@Capt Aviator Jim McCartney turned 64 on July 7th, 1966. Paul had just turned 24. Sorry Captain, but you story does not add up. |
The Beatles – Two of Us Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This is John and Paul's breakup song. "Two of us riding nowhere spending someone's hard earned pay" This is their constant traveling and making a lot of money doing so. "You and me chasing paper getting nowhere." This speak to the business aspect of the Beatles relationship. "You and me burning matches lifting latches." This is John and Paul smoking marijuana and "latches" is a sexual reference to the female anatomy. "You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead." Their past is longer than their future together, which will soon end when the Beatles break up. Very lovely sweet tune my wife and I used to open our wedding video. |
R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This song is about the singers unrequited love with a girl (or boy) he is infatuated if not obsessed with. When you are obsessed with someone, you shun normal relationships with potential love interests. Infatuations are common among people who are not willing or ready to be in a serious relationship. This could be do to immaturity, recovering from a bad breakup, or uncertainty regarding what one wants in a partner. In some regard an unrequited love is safe; safe from a real relationship until the person is ready. So this person believes the dedication of the song is a 'love" but at this point the singer has moved on and recognizes that this obsession/unrequited love was a prop to occupy his time until he is ready for a real relationship;. Just my take on this awesome song. |
Led Zeppelin – Hey Hey What Can I Do Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This song is about an unrequited love. The man (I don't think is RP) is in love with a woman who simply doesn't love him to the degree to which she would make a commitment. He speaks of the people together going to church with some envy, as he is seeking a women who will be by his side in front of God. He wants a more traditional committed relationship while she still wants to plat the field. She is definitely not a prostitute, "the street corner" girl is meant to be derogatory not literal. Either way, our hero is conflicted because he is in love, she is beautiful, and the sex is great (as she is well-practiced.) She makes no secret about her willingness to at a minimum play the field and at worst, be the town flouzee. You hear him sing "Yeah No Yeah No Yeah No" to voice how conflicted he is whether to enjoy what he can and hope for a commitment or be true to his values and leave. The last line, which is my personal favorite in any Led Zeppelin son, voices his conclusion: "I got a worried mind sharing what I thought was mine." I like this song because it describes a situation anyone could be in; not just a stud like Robert Plant. |
