The 1975 – If I Believe You Lyrics 5 years ago
This song seems to undoubtedly be about atheism, but also about wanting to believe in God despite that. Lead singer Matty has openly spoken about being an atheist in the past, and has more recently spoken about how he's envious of the faithful and would love some solid evidence to be presented to him.

Panic! at the Disco – Death of a Bachelor Lyrics 6 years ago
I see so many people say this is a happy song about him marrying his wife and starting a new stage of his life, but I've never seen that from this song. To me, this strikes me as a very unhappy song, about a man who doesn't want to be married.
'Do I look lonely? I see the shadows on my face. People have told me I don't look the same', 'the lace in your dress tangles my neck', 'Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served' 'Am I the best you've ever had? Share one more drink with me, smile even though you're sad'. Just a few, rather clear examples this isn't a song about happily getting married.
As well, the chorus strikes me as almost being sarcastic 'The death of a bachelor, seems so fitting for happily ever after. How could I ask for more?' It makes me feel like he acknowledges this should be a happy occasion, but it isn't, and he's sarcastically asking "How could I ask for more?"
I think the overall tale of this song is that he's marrying someone he doesn't love, he doesn't get on with very well, and he's unhappy about that. But hey, maybe I'm totally wrong.

I heard the song was about battling with a drink problem/getting over a drink problem, but I don't know if it is or isn't for sure!

You Me at Six – Crash Lyrics 8 years ago
To me, this song is about a couple who had been together when they were younger, but something happened along the way to make them thing twice about it, and they broke it off. As time went on, they gained new partners, but they never really got over each other fully, and now that they're in contact/close enough with each other, the protagonist wants to try again.

The first part of the song makes me think of how the protagonist wanted to still be there for their partner, especially through the line 'Keep me on my toes, keep me in the know.' - He wants to know what's going on with her so he can continue to be there for her, as a friend or as a partner.

'But when I looked at her, I thought of only you.' - He got himself a new partner, but he still cared for his last partner.

'We were in our teens.' - Pretty self explanatory, it makes me think they were younger when they were together first.

'We grew up, We worked and changed our ways.' - Now they're older, they're more able to be serious about the relationship, they've changed.

'Just crash, fall down, I'll wrap my arms around you now. Just crash, it's our time now, to make this work second time around.' - This makes me think he wants his partner to just 'crash', to just throw themselves into the second chance and try not to think of how it could go wrong, because he feels it'll go well for them.

Just my own thoughts.

The Fray – Heaven Forbid Lyrics 8 years ago
For me, it's about someone who has had a drug problem.
'Heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why.' - No one will be able to stick around the person, and heaven forbid they don't know why that this is happening.
'It feels good, is that reason enough for you?' - The drugs make you feel good, but is that a good enough reason to keep taking them, despite what it's doing to them and the people around them?
'I don't know how to get you out of this one.' - He doesn't know how to help the person, they don't accept their help and they just dig themselves in deeper.

Simple Plan – This Song Saved My Life Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, though this may not be the meaning of the song, it's an extended metaphor. The song is a person who saved his life.

I can grasp that from the 'Sometimes it feels like you've known me forever', and 'I'm not alone, that I'll never have to be.' Some others too, obviously, but especially those.

It's like it was created to say thank you for a person who had helped him through the difficult times.

Fall Out Boy – Centuries Lyrics 9 years ago
For me, this song is about someone who is very determined to be remembered, though not necessarily in a bad way. It reminds me of someone who wants to be famous, and here's why I think that:
'Mummified my teenage dreams' - Like they want to preserve it, as to mummify something would be to preserve something that would otherwise just rot away. They preserved their teenage dreams of being famous, in my head.
'The kids are all wrong' - This has two meanings to me, either that the kids were saying he couldn't do it, but he could, or when coupled with the line 'The stories are off' It makes me think of all the things they're told, all the 'legends' and stuff, but he believes they're wrong, and that they shouldn't be looking up to these people, but someone who has more to offer, like him.
'And I can't stop 'til the whole world knows my name, 'Cause I was only born inside my dreams' - He feels like his dreams are the only thing that gives him meaning, the only thing he wants in his life, and he just can't stop until he gets it.
'And just one mistake, is all it will take' - He only needs to mess up once to not be able to influence people in the way he wants to, he has to be careful of the name he gets for himself.

These are just a few reasons why I think it, perhaps you have the same idea too!

Snow Patrol – Set the Fire to the Third Bar Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, this is so obviously about a long distance relationship. I have gathered this from the lines 'The distance from here to where your be, is only finger - lengths that I see.' , 'I touch the place where I'd find your face' and 'I'm miles from where you are.' There's others I'd also count, but to me, these are the most obvious ones.

The song beautifully describes exactly what it's like to be in a long distance relationship. It expresses the desperation someone in the situation feels to be near their love, the sadness from missing them, but also the overwhelming love they feel for each other.

Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, there's lots of things I can interpret from this song, but the main storyline behind it for me, is a boy who's not with someone he loves (Be that from a break up, a long distance relationship, etc) And it's slowly driving him into anxiety and depression, and he is turning to substances. Whist battling with this, he also is battling with wanting more from his life. I've grasped this from these lines:
'Two jumps in a week, I bet you thing that's pretty clever, don't you boy.' - This makes me think of someone who's up and down. The picture that comes to mind is him spending a very short period of time with his love, and is happy, and then he leaves her and gets very down again. However, I think it just means in general, him going from happy to sad quickly.
'Kill yourself for recognition.' - Him wanting to be known, wanting something from his life, but also wanting people to see his feelings are true and that it's driven him to this.
'Kill yourself to never, ever stop.' - Not wanting to stop the substance abuse.
'You're turning into something you are not.' - His emotions are turning him into something that he didn't used to be, a shell of himself, who's personality has changed.
'Drying up in conversation, you will be the one who cannot talk.' - Anxiety and depression is getting to him, he struggles to talk to people these days.
'You just sit there wishing you could still make love.' - He misses the one he loves, he sits there and thinks about them, wishing they were there with him, so he could 'still make love.'
'They're the ones who'll hate you, when you think you've got the world all sussed out, they're the once who'll spit at you, you'll be the one screaming out.' - This whole section to me is just about him being so down, that he thinks the whole world is cruel and he thinks he has it sussed out, when he doesn't, and everyone around him can feel love.
'The best thing you have had is gone away.' - His love was the best thing he had, but now he/she is gone from his reach.
'Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry.' - Don't leave him without the substances he needs.

These are all just my interpretations, this is what comes to mind when I hear these lyrics.

Sia – Elastic Heart Lyrics 9 years ago
This was recorded for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Because of this, a lot of the lyrics will relate to Catching Fire, and from my understanding, the different characters.
Lyrics like 'I might've got to be with one' to me, is Katniss talking about how she might have got to be with either Peeta or Gale, but now she's in the arena and she expects to live out the rest of her days in it.

Coldplay – Always in My Head Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, this song is about any form of love where you're struggling with something, if that's being broken up, being away from each other, the feelings not being returned, etc.
To me, I think of long distance relationships more though, they're closer to my heart. It doesn't have to be about a lover to me, though. It can be about anyone who is a way, friends, family, etc.

I like to think about how you're so far away, but the person you love is always in your head, and though you try to get on with every day activities, you just can't shake how much you miss them. 'My body moves, goes where I will, but though I try my heart stays still.'

To me, this song is just about missing people.

Passenger – You're On My Mind Lyrics 9 years ago
To me, this song is about one of two things.

1. I can see this being about someone in a long distance relationship who is struggling to cope with not seeing their loved one, and their loved one is always on their mind. He hopes that he'll get through it and they'll see each other again soon, 'Hope inside us taking flight.' But he feels alone and hopeless, and he's letting go of himself.

2. He's broken up with someone, and he's struggling to get over it, even thought he's trying to find new people. 'It's unexpected, but I'm going home by myself.' To me, that means he was expecting to find someone new but he's going home by himself because he can't face seeing other people while he still loves who he's broken up with.

Just my interpretation though.
