Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Bicycle Lyrics 11 years ago
Definitely a metaphor to Albert Hofmanns 'Bicycle Day' experience as per onetwothreefo's comment above...the narrator is caught up in an LSD moment (after taking a big dose and mixing with other drugs).

"Was it great, no disease
That will get you taken by
a squad car right to the a&e"

Sounds like he was tripping balls on his 'ride' and the cops came and spoiled the fun

I Am Kloot – No Fear Of Falling Lyrics 11 years ago
My interpretation is that it's about the narrator reassuring his lover that he will be there to provide emotional support and security regarless of the odds.

Despite maybe having a colourful, turbulent history together ("our heads clear of the mistakes") and that other people may not approve of the relationship ("you won't stumble through tonight drowning in their laughter") their love will prevail over anything. The narrator is telling his romantic interest to throw caution to the wind and remove any emotional barriers his partner is putting up, because ultimately he will be there to 'catch' them when they fall (in love).

Seriously contemplating this track for the first dance at my wedding because it is such an honest, beautiful song.

The Silver Jews – We Are Real Lyrics 11 years ago
The song sounds like a melancholy reflection of the independent musician...and that modern music is artificial and musicians have lost their integrity. Despite the fact the narrator is 'playing tamborines for minimum wage' and struggling with artistic identity and expression, he's basically saying at least I still have my integrity and music will reflect his soul, not what other's expect to hear.

Atlas Sound – The Shakes Lyrics 11 years ago
Yeah pretty depressing song alright! The narrator is looking back and reflecting on his life and lamenting on his 'friends' which could be interpreted as material posessions rather than 'real' people and literal friendships. In his pursuit for 'money and fame' he has ended up with nothing but emptiness even though he is trying to convince himself he is surrounded by people that care about him even though he's in denial:

"I made lots of friends
I made lots and lots of friends
And on me did they depend"

Portishead – Silence Lyrics 11 years ago
My personal interpretation is that she's mourning the loss of an unborn child, like a miscarriage or something. Her partner doesn't understand the pain she's dealing with because he did a runner and now she suffers in silence.

The way the track abrubtly ends symbolises the sudden loss of the unborn child
