Phox – Nineteen Thirty-Six Lyrics 11 years ago
Actually, the grandmother of lead singer, Monica, was born and raised in Baraboo, WI. She was born Jan 1936 (garnet birthstone ring our gramma wears). Janet's mother, Edith Hope, is our great grandmother. This is a song about GramGram, our grandmother, Janet. Addiction runs in our family. It can fee like having toxic genes or being made from a 'poor' gene pool. Monica and Janet can be like oil and water, especially during Monica's teen years, but they are blood and they love each other in the end. This song is about resentment, lack of forgiveness, and how toxic behavior is passed on through the generations, if allowed to do so. After generations of addiction and toxic behavior, there is still hope of the family overcoming. Factoid: Janet did live through the 60's (as they say) but she is a serenity seeking non-drug user. Edith Hope, and her husband, were of the upper class and had hired help heavily assist in raising their two kids. Edith might have hoped for love, as the singer suggests, but she was known as cold and distant to her daughter, Janet.
