While it is stated that this song is meant to be about waiting for the right guy, I interpreted this differently, and I'd just like to share my thoughts on it :) So please don't read if you're looking for the actual meaning. I've always thought that this was the story of a lady who loves a man who died, e.g "'Yeah, he's still coming, just a little bit late He got stuck at the laundromat washing his cape'" Is a bit like she's in denial of some sort, saying that he'll come back, but he's not really going to. "She's talking to angels," This might be why I thought of it like that, because my friend told me that she always thought that those who were insane and talked to thin air were talking to angels, or a higher deity of sorts. So I always took this as the girl is going slightly mad. "Counting the stars," Generally, there is an almost infinite amount of stars, so one does not often count them. I took this as something to kill off time and worry. "Waiting for Superman," While this can be interpreted as 'Waiting for the right guy,' I've always believed that she missed him so much that his very presence would soothe her mind, therefore 'saving' her from depression etc. "Save her now, before it's too late tonight," Again, the 'saviour' thing, because she's worried that she'll dive a little too deep into this whole delusion/depression thing. "To lift her up and take her anywhere," Like saying 'I don't care where you're going to take me, but I need you next to me,' So... yeah. Just my interpretation, not the actual one :) |
