Five Finger Death Punch – Cold Lyrics 7 years ago
I see the song's meaning as a general view of the world as well the singer's self:

"I'm gazing upward, a world I can't embrace
There's only thorns and splinters, venom in my veins
It's okay to cry out, when it's driving you insane
But somehow someday, I'll have to face the pain"

They've been so hurt by people in the world, made fun of, attacked, insulted, whatever happened to them caused them so much pain to the point that they no longer see themselves as apart of the world that they live in. They're constantly enduring tons of pain, but they feel like, one day, they'll just have to deal with it, unfortunately.

"It's all gone cold
But no one wants the blame
It's all so wrong
But who am I, who am I to say?"

I feel like this is a pretty important part of the song; they're saying that, although the world is very dark, hurtful, and cold, they're also a part of it. Though the singer is complaining about the people around them, they too realize that they are also a person at the end of the day. So they feel like there's nothing they really have to say in the matter (which I feel like shows ultimate humbleness).

"My heart's an endless winter filled with rage
I'm looking forward to forgetting yesterday"

The singer's incredibly infuriated and perhaps turns to alcohol (I know Ivan Moody [5FDP singer] did this for a while to forget the pain he was enduring).

So basically, I think that the song's about a person living in a world that leaves them cold; they don't want to be a part of it, it's a terrible, awful place filled with pain and suffering caused by people, but then again, at the end of it all, they, too, are a person, and realize that there's nothing they can really say about it.

Five Finger Death Punch – Far From Home Lyrics 7 years ago
As for the literal meaning, yes, I do believe it's written from a soldier's point of view for many reasons lots of people have already commented on. But as for its metaphorical meaning, I believe it's a bit more simple; it's just about a person caught in a run, feeling under a curse, if you will. They travel through life, meet new people, make some friends, cut out some relationships and never see them again, and they "can't seem to find their way home". As in, they can't find an emotional spot to rest. They never feel at ease, something's always wrong. It's been this way for years, etc. Lots of people feel this way, if not most.

But a segment of the song that I find very interesting and that I haven't seen anyone comment on yet is the line, "your heaven's trying everything to break me down/keep me out"; it's a long shot, but my interpretation of this part is that he feels like whatever upper authority that may be above him, literal or not, is making things bad for him on purpose. Things just seem too coincidental, there's always something bad or tragic that happens just when things might be able to become good again. Over and over and over. And, considering lots of the meanings of the lyrics behind many other 5FDP songs, these bad things that happen and the crap other people put him through are what makes him angry and full of rage. It's the cause of his wrongdoings onto others, and because of his wrongdoings, he feels like he won't get into heaven or find any peace. But whatever controls heaven or has the keys to it, whatever it is, is the one that isn't letting him have the peace in order to be considered pure enough to get in in the first place. So it's like a massive, contradictory logic behind this god/life in general.

Breaking Benjamin – Ashes of Eden Lyrics 7 years ago
I do in fact think the song has religious ties to it; I believe one of the band members was a christian. He informed Ben about God, although Ben didn't really know what to think in the matter. Ben is afraid of dying, he has a lot of phobias, and in this song, in a way, he's asking God, if he exists, why can't he hear him? Why is he not answering him if he exists? He wants to live and is so terrified of so many things, and his last hope, seemingly, is this god, if it exists at all.

Future Islands – Tin Man Lyrics 9 years ago
Love this song, my thoughts on its lyrics are that it's about a person looking for a true friend/lover/whatever, a person to be close to and to trust. But after finding out the person he's talking about in this song is not the one, and the heart isn't there, he goes off to search for another person. Like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, he's looking for a heart.

Spiritualized – Hey Jane Lyrics 9 years ago
I see this song as a very blinded and insincere way of saying you love someone, almost as if you're pretending that all the negative, bad things that that person does doesn't exist. It's like you know the person may not be the best person to be with, but you're lying to yourself. I think this especially with the whole outro of "sweet heart, sweet light", as this person based on the lyrics is apparently not a sweet, lighthearted person. That's how I've seen it, anyway, especially considering the way the music all gets disoriented and unsettling really fast in the song.

Machine Head – Game Over Lyrics 9 years ago
I love this song so much, heard it on the radio recently and instantly fell in love. The chorus and bridge get to me every time, it reminds me of a relationship I've been through with a specific person that sounds an awful lot like what these lyrics describe... helps me get through it. Great song.

Device – Vilify Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it's pretty obvious, basically it's about someone criticizing and making fun of you, for very trivial reasons. The whole part when it goes "you begin to nullify everything we've ever done", it makes me think of a relationship the person was in, and now that friend is just relentlessly vilifying him. Been through it and seen it with people a lot.

Really awesome song.

Reel Big Fish – Please Don't Tell Her I Have A Girlfriend Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it's pretty obvious what the meaning is, basically it's if you meet a girl and you really like her, so much in fact that you want to be more than just her friend, even though you already have a girlfriend. It's that horrible urge of wanting to be in a relationship with someone even when you are already in one.

Great song, by the way, really Irishy. lol

Spiritualized – Life Is a Problem Lyrics 9 years ago
Here's my interpretation... he talks about wanting Jesus to tell him what to do, letting him know what he's supposed to say or accomplish throughout life in order to get to Heaven. But he feels as if Jesus is not there for him and not listening to or telling him anything, hence "I won't get to Heaven 'cause I'm lost and I'm gone". He thinks that he is a sinner, and if there is a god, he isn't going to tell him what to do in order to get to Heaven, if it's even an actual place. It's a very hopeless and sad song, but I can relate to it on a lot of levels. Really beautiful.

Reel Big Fish – Sell Out Lyrics 9 years ago
I believe the song is a negative outlook on being in a band, making music for a living, and getting contracted. It talks about how the person doesn't even remember what they signed onto exactly and how they're unsure and sort of worrisome over the whole situation. but then later when the man says "that's the way it is and it don't get better than this", he starts to sort of half believe it, that just getting a bunch of money is the answer to happiness and "everything's gonna be alright". He's in a way sort of sarcastically making that statement, as he doesn't really think it's true, but because the world around him tells him that's how it is, he doesn't quite know how to think otherwise.

"Coz you're gonna go to the record store
You're gonna give'em all your money
Radio plays what they want you to hear
Tell me it's cool, I just don't believe it"

I think he also sees the whole thing as incredibly shallow and empty in the end. But, the man said this is the best thing you can possibly do and this is what you want, so...

Three Days Grace – Break Lyrics 9 years ago
So far everyone wrote some pretty good interpretations, but I thought the song's meaning is pretty obvious; it's about getting high, doing drugs to get out of horrible pain in your life. "I start the fire", like lighting it up, "take yourself to higher places". Adam apparently had (or has) addictions, and I believe that was his inspiration to the song. Of course, you can also look at this from a more intuitive point of view, it doesn't need to physically mean drugs or alcohol.

I really love it, sometimes I feel like I just wanna break away from everything as well, because at times I just can't stand the way this place is...

Goldfinger – Handjobs for Jesus Lyrics 9 years ago
I don't see the song as so much of just a straight-up insult and denial of the religion's existence, but more of the questioning of it. He's not sure if it's actually real because everyone and all the information out there from those thousands of sources make it so confusing and complicated with no real straight answers of anything. He just chooses to not accept it because of that when he says "all religion can go straight to Hell", I don't think he's necessarily saying that it's not "real".

I also find it interesting how he does mention some form of a god in his other songs, such as "Get Up", which someone else has mentioned, as well as "You Think it's a Joke" when he says "and if there's a god above..." and so forth. It sounds to me like he possibly has partially believed it off-and-on throughout his life, but this song right here is talking about his questioning.

He pokes fun at it obviously too, though, as a way to relieve some of the stress, anger and disappointment that believing it has given him.

Reel Big Fish – Down In Flames Lyrics 9 years ago
Multiple people have already said stuff like this in the comments, but I will add my thoughts to the meaning of the song as well. Yes, I think it's about how the band got fairly popular with their songs from Turn the Radio Off, but then later the producers, radio and possibly the "fans" ditch them and won't accept their newer stuff. It reminds me of the lyrics in "One Hit Wonderful", another RBF song. They don't love the band, they love that one song they made. He's very cynical about the future of the band, as he feels it's all going to go "down in flames", and once "the main stream coughs up another shell" once the ska fad is over, he feels as if he won't be let back into the "underground".

I really like the beginning lines:

"You don't know me, but here I am in your living room,
You don't own me, but you paid and that means alot to you, well,
You never listen, but I know that's what you think that you do"

I think what he means by "here I am in your living room" is that it's a song of his playing on someone's stereo, and he feels like people THINK that they know him and are his fans, but again, he is cynical about it and he thinks they're really not, they just want to hear that one song he made.

It's really an amazing song, I love how the music is so upbeat and happy, as if, yes, he's very disappointed in how everything is going to go, but he still wants to make fun songs and he's somewhat hopeful at the same time.

To me, the song can also mean something on a metaphorical level; it could be a relationship you have with someone/some people. People can act like they're your friend, but they just cling onto a certain aspect of you and inside, don't actually care about you. But it's alright, it's okay, it was going to happen anyway... I just absolutely love how the song's lyrics are so cynical and sad, but at the same time, it has this feeling of "it's all going to be fine in the end". One of my favorites.

Reel Big Fish – Brand New Song Lyrics 9 years ago
I feel like the song is about how the singer is basically bitter about getting into another relationship/friendship because he has been hurt in the past. "Oh not you again, it gets worse every time". "You keep telling me that it's so easy to forget it, you keep telling me but I know I'll always regret it". He's regretful that he got into relationships with people and things went sour, now he has negative feelings lingering in him.

Awesome song, by the way. I love how the lyrics are very sad and negative but the music and the way it is sung is so happy and cheerful.

Reel Big Fish – Big Star Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it's pretty obvious, but the song is about someone who gets rich and famous doing what he's doing, what he always apparently wanted, but misses someone he used to love. He probably dumped her back in the day and was mad at her and said he never wanted to be with her again, but now that he's where he's at, nobody truly seems to like him anymore. He now misses her, he feels like he can't get her (or anyone else) to love her ever again, and ultimately, that is the worst feeling to him, worse than not being famous in the first place.

Reel Big Fish – Everything Is Cool Lyrics 9 years ago
I feel the song is about a guy who was hurt by a girl in a relationship that failed, and in his head there is just all this sadness and indescribable rage going on (as you hear in the verses and bridge), but in the chorus it gets calm, as if that's him talking to the girl (like DarthFly0 mentioned). He's kidding himself, he's so angry and hurt but in front of people and to the person who hurt him he wants to make it look like things are going good for him.

Mumford & Sons – Broken Crown Lyrics 10 years ago
It may be farfetched, but the song always made me think of someone rejecting God, being angry at him for letting all this evil and horrible things happen in the world and possibly feeling like he was lied to by him, and yet knowing that God wants him to accept him.

"I'll never wear your broken crown, I can take the road and I can fuck it all the way", to me that means he doesn't want to accept God and instead live life the way he wants to by himself, even though he knows it will be tough.

"Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace?" Twilight meaning the darkness and bad things going on in the world.

"But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate", meaning that he knows if he doesn't accept God he'll go to Hell. He feels torn, he's mad at God and wants to reject him, but if he does he may not go to Heaven.

Reel Big Fish – My Imaginary Friend Lyrics 10 years ago
The song can definitely be about someone losing a friend and realizing that, metaphorically, he "was never really there", but right up at the point where he goes "used to fold my hands and close my eyes and think you were with me", it obviously is about him losing faith in a god he used to believe in.

Disturbed – Haunted Lyrics 10 years ago
I've always thought that the song was about how he's hurt about a lot of things and is not able to express himself enough to other people, primarily because they just can't understand. I think when he talks about people's worlds, it just means themselves, like how they interpret and perceive things, like when he says "your world wouldn't understand" and "your world dishonored my own world". He's becoming bitter and angry at people and the world in general because of the cruel things they're doing and how no one understands him, like when he goes "a world of demons wait, watching the movements and filling my heart with hate", "my blood is cold as ice", and "I've got a heart of stone".

Reel Big Fish – Where Have You Been? Lyrics 10 years ago
I love this song, in fact, I can confidently say it is currently my favorite song. It's fairly simple but very memorable, the way it all flows together, the emotion it has, and the main guitar riff that plays throughout... brings back a lot of memories, and the lyrics really remind me of some people that I now wish would... well... go to hell, ha ha.

The song's meaning is pretty obvious and straight-forward, they dump you, and when you're finally over it, they come crawling back to you for comfort, but at that point, you're so bitter and full of hatred towards them because of the pain they put you through, you want to leave THEM in pain.

Mumford & Sons – Dust Bowl Dance Lyrics 10 years ago
I always thought the song was fairly self-explanatory, it's about a kid during the Great Depression or the Potato Famine. It may also have a deeper, more metaphorical meaning though, like perhaps it is about the general idea of good vs. evil and justice, like someone else recently stated.
