Screaming Eagles is about the 101st Airborne Division (nicknamed Screaming Eagles) The first stanza is about the D-Day landing, the second stanza is about Operation Market Garden, a failed airborne operation to get across the Rhine river, the rest of the song is about the Battle of the Bulge, the chorus has Bastogne,a town surrounded at the beginning of the battle, the Screaming Eagles were the ones surrounded, also nicknamed the Battered Bastards of Bastogne. Yes this song portrays the Band of Brothers series, but that series was about the entire war in Europe, not just D-Day. |
