| @[foreveryoungAL:35543] Second possibility: it is a day at death sentence. It doesn't last long, just an injection... and you are gone. Door closes, witnesses are dressed up with suits. Bright neon lamps in the blind room. Surreal as people and the convicted behave, are polite and "just as normal" even in such a tragic moment. But the convicted killed his love. Too much love. And still loves her, even here, in that moment. | |

I see a funeral. These dark days go fast, taken by social obligations, sign papers, be on time, organise this or that, church funeral, people all dressed up in black (suits). All seems surreal, artificial, too bright for such a dark time. Far too many people come to pay homage, though not that much touched themselves. You smile to please and thank people for coming and sharing their nice words to you... you try to care about them but really, all this seems out of place. Comes the refrain: the person who died, maybe voluntarily seems it sounds like an accusation, broke your heart. Contrast between the regular pace of the battery, day moves and hours tick, and long background music, long lasting thoughts and pain. |

| Alphaville – Forever Young Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Hi, I love this song because it was heard millions of times, thinking it is a pop 80's hit... and nothing else. But I was always deep into it, understanding that the lyrics behind were strong and meaningful. Probably the reference to 'cold war' is the best and true interpretation, hard to argue the contrary... now... it does not explain certain parts of sentences and, actually, these parts make this song a 'forever' song and not only related to the cold war. My interpretation is based on the idea that when you die, people keep this last image of you, at that age, and while they get older, you remain the same untouched and young person. Pictures will only show you as a young person, forever. Think about all that famous signers or actors who died young, compared to all the others slowly fading, would that be physically speaking or creativity and charm speaking. I would say, for people who comit suicide, that this song is indeed a good reference point. Many reasons for wanting to die but certainly a fact is that... at time you decide to say 'stop' you will have the memories you lived, the experiences you got which are facing the once that will never exist, obviously, cause of death. This is what is said here: "So many adventures couldn't happen today So many songs we forgot to play So many dreams are swinging out of the blue We let them come true" We take what we have, we quit the scene too early but... we know that what we got then was good as only youth can be. "I don't want to perish like a fading horse" is key in that way: when you think the worst is ahead, with a smile, you can decide to stop all and stay with what you have had. You decide to stop there, ask for the bill and leave without having other disches and desserts: the starter and main dish was so good, no need to go further. It could only be worst. Then your life, as a "total" will be better than the average long one you could have had, since the not-as-funny part is coming. It is of course saying that you have to enjoy each step of your life, day by day, without waiting. But also that: "Let us die young or let us live forever" knowing that youth is the ultimate part of life (true or not, that's not the question) you want to stick to this part. The only alternative would be to live forever - meaning staying young forever. Knowing that this is not possible... better die young. Cause, back to point above, you will resonate as young forever, leaving in the world, in your family this image of youth. I would like this song to be a song ending my funerals. Explaining to all that dying is not a drama, even in case of a suicide, if your life was good and enjoyable. You had your good parts, you had a good average life, you had joys, friends, experiences. It is not easy to quit, that you wanted it or not, in case you have to leave too early then... you still prefer that than standing and expecting the worst, but hoping for the best, which won't come cause you will only get older. And trying to keep alive at any price just because of fearing death is... sad. Better face death, open your arms and smile, singing Forever Young, cause, yes, you will be dead but forever young. And the attendance has to hear that, understanding that you accept to die because, at least, you get eternity at the same time. |
