| Joan Osborne – After Jane Lyrics

Well I think that she is speaking in either terms of a dear friend that she may have lost or maybe something a little deeper like almost a romantic relationship with another woman " i was hers she was mine we were together all the time" and yet she wonders whether it was something which was right or wrong and how she lays awake at night and wonders what "could have been" and being confused "maybe it's over maybe we're free" but also feeling almost drowned by her loneliness for this person "you know this lonely feeling is drowning me", "Will i rise up again?" "will i ever know a friend like my jane" Will she ever love someone like jane again? or know someone who mean't as much to her as jane did. 'Maybe it's over maybe it's not you know this lonely feeling is all i got" again she's wondering if it's over or its not and knowing that that lonely feeling is all that she has. "after jane after jane oh my jane oh my jane, after jane" if there will ever be another person like her jane. |

| Melissa Etheridge – All American Girl Lyrics

I think that this is her commentary on the struggles and endurance of being a woman in a man's world. An american woman who is human but yet strong enough to keep her head above water without a man's help. |

I think this song is dylan's comment on returning to his normal life back home after being on tour and the lifestyle that he led in the headlines and as a singer and celebrity. These are just his daily chores and the daily grind of his life back home, the chores, and the mundane of everyday life. |

| Joan Baez – Ghetto Lyrics

I think this song is an affirmation to the inner city life and how to rise above it.How the difference between being rich and poor can change if everyone would rise to the call but also realizing that being born the child of a poor man that there is no shame or stigma attached to poverty and if we would evolve enough we could eradicate and build a "new jerusalem" meaning a new way of life, better schools and education, housing for individuals, and that there would be no more ghetto in out society at all. I don't know i tried my best to interpret it |

| Melissa Etheridge – Enough Of Me Lyrics

|
I think that this song means that she has given everything that she has to this person to this relationship "her soul, every ounce of control just "everything" away to them but for them it was not enough because now they are leaving like her father and disappointed like her mother but she still holds on to them because in her "heart there is no other. So basically it's about giving everything you have and just having that person walk out on you. |

| Melissa Etheridge – Similar Features Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
|
This song is about a non-monogamous or open relationship that she was in at the time. I'll interpret it in detail.: Go on and close your eyes imagine me there she got similar features with longer hair is talking about someone who is similar in features to the singer but with longer hair and if that is what it would take to get them through then it shouldn't bother them if there with someone else.First verse:The person never had to wait for anybody to want them as the singer wants or desires that person and that wanting the singer must have been a "steel blue knife" meaning because it was not real or the love was not there to begin with, but the passion was always there for the singer, but the person could not see the signs "you had to have the jewels wrapped around your finger",but they keep running and not seeing the truth in front of them.Second verse:"Dancing with the wall made you bitter and sweet" The person is now alone and wanting again but because "there ain't much you can do when they just lay it at your feet" is because the singer had given the person everything they had but now they aren't and they should have been able to tell that the singer was the one who wanted them,"did you listen again when the damage was done" because it's already too late to rekindle anything, "now the paint's still wet in your do it by number dream" "are you gonna tell me how it felt will you tell me what it means" this means that the tables are turned now because now this person wants the singer back again but the singer is almost defiant and leaving them with questions about what they had but now lost.Third verse: "Was it want with no desire?" "was it smoke with no fire?" "did i say it doesn't rip me apart i lied i'm sorry dear my hands are tied." The singer is asking the person was it just a fling with no actual desire and whether or not it was real or fake but in wanting to keep their pride they say it did not rip them apart when it did because there is nothing that the singer can do to change the situation. |

| Melissa Etheridge – If I Wanted To Lyrics

I think melissa is great song writer. I think here she's saying that if she wanted to she could do anything she wanted dance with the devil, have political leaders in the palm of her hand..etc but on the other hand there are some things that you cannot deny and one of them is being obsessively in love with someone and to her she feels that she wouldn't have to be in love with this person and trying to deny the fact that she is she would leave but even though she know's that she has no control over the situation she is almost telling herself that she does even though she doesn't. |

| Melissa Etheridge – Down to One Lyrics

I think that the meaning is pretty clear she's trying to figure out what went wrong in her relationship with her girlfriend but also what she could have done to make her girlfriend try harder to make it work also and almost blaming herself trying to figure out where she failed knowing that she herself let her heart lead her down that road but also realizing that everyone at some point in their lives has to "walk alone". |

| Melissa Etheridge – Occasionally Lyrics

Melissa has said that this was about a woman that she was dating before she had gotten signed and had a record deal. From the singers perspective this woman wears her friends as if they were accessories and it looks as if she has so many people around her while the singer has to settle with being lonely but only occasionally. |

| Melissa Etheridge – I'm The Only One Lyrics

|
I think that she is saying that she is the only one who would sacrifice herself completely for her lover "i'm the only one who'll walk across the fire for you" and put everything that she has into the relationship and that no matter whoever comes into her life no other woman will love her like she does. |

| Melissa Etheridge – Like The Way I Do Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
|
I think that she is saying in the verses that the person that she is with wants a non-monogamous relationship and has a desire/crush on or for someone else and is basically asking her what this other person can give her what she herself can't and also accusing her of not putting enough effort into making the relationship work "you found out to love me you have to climb some fences" |

| Melissa Etheridge – Let Me Go Lyrics
|
|
I think that this song means that she wants a real relationship with the person that she is with and she's wondering if she's only a temporary fix and desire or stand in for that person and if that is the case she wants them to "let her go" because this person is an obvious seducer who is not for real. Meaning that she wants a "real" relationship not a temporary fling. |

I think that this song means that the person that she desires and wants she is almost wondering if they even have the same kind of desires that she has for them and almost wonders if they are real because she feels and strongly desires them but still has doubts that they feel the same. |

| Melissa Etheridge – Chrome Plated Heart Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
|
My interpretation is this i'll try to to break it down First verse: i think that the chrome plated heart means that she has a shield of protection around her heart so that she will not be hurt again and the angels crying with rust in their eyes means of a heartbreak that she continues to suffer but she has learned to leave nothing to chance "no stone unturned" and to keep standing in the face of fear, but the love is real as the day is long but the night is black indicating that it's still night so it's not real.Second verse: The two dollar stare is somebody who has a wandering eye and the midas in my touch means that everything that she touches turns to gold and that she has everything to become successful and the delilah in her hair is the one who has taken away her strength and her secrets and has brought down her self confidence but she keeps walking with this almost defiant attitude that she can overcome the heartache by meeting someone else.Third verse: The only way i know where the train will go is when i'm sleeping on the tracks this means that the only way she will know how the relationship will turn out is if she know's where she stands with her lover and the direction of where the relationship is going. |
