alt-J – Nara Lyrics 7 years ago
@[SpiderSoldier:1208] I don't understand, do you mean to right to vote on whether or not homosexual marriage should be allowed? If that's your viewpoint, I'm afraid you're behind the times, the world is coming out of it's cocoon, having realised that prejudice and injustice is not the way to go.
If that's not your viewpoint, then please elucidate for me

Hozier – In the Woods Somewhere Lyrics 7 years ago
@[maximus104:437] I'd love to tell you, but i don't know myself. I feel though, that the whole thing is a dream, or metaphor for other journeys in life, but someone more analytical than i needs to find this page and decipher

There's a difference between propaganda and shouting out for rights. Propaganda tries to force you into believing something. This song does none of that, it simply points out what is wrong. And if you want to stop listening to a song that you thought sounded good before, then that's your prerogative, but this is NOT propaganda

alt-J – Garden of England - Interlude Lyrics 7 years ago
It would be interesting if someone could actually come up for a reason as to why this is even on the album, in the place that it is.
i for one, am clueless.

alt-J – Nara Lyrics 7 years ago
It's a song about being homosexual and facing discrimination, and wanting to run away, to "be a deer in Nara". (incidentally, Nara is in this case city in japan where deer are treated as godlike creatures).
The song also mentions sources of homophobia, such as:
- Alabama, an extremely conservative US state,
- Alvan E. Bovay (the founder of the Republican party), and
- "Hallelujah", a nod to a religious source of prejudice, as a conduit of protest toward needless and unrequited hate.
Their lyrics "I've discovered a man like no other man" and "unpin your butterflies Russia" (reference to Russia's vehement discrimination of homosexuals, as evidenced by the recent Olympic Games, with "butterflies" representing the LGBT community) really drive home that point.

alt-J – Hunger of the Pine Lyrics 8 years ago
Alt - J (∆) said on the new track (sourced from here - http://tinyurl.com/psdh6sl) that "The lyrics mainly suggest the idea that missing someone — pining — can be a physical pain much like hunger."

Mr. Probz – Waves Lyrics 8 years ago
I feel like he's singing about a relationship which he knew was slowly falling apart, and it killed him that it was that way, but there was no way of stopping it. Just like waves slowly chip away at the seaside, the relationship is slowly being battered down.

MGMT – Kids Lyrics 8 years ago
This song is incredible because i actually think it can have several different meanings, depending on your perspective. I agree with all comments concerning the environment, growing up through life, and child abuse. It's written in such a way that it transcends the popular limits of one meaning for me. But personally, the lyrics convey a sense of being lost, and longing for love, and children being ignored by parents who don't care. One of the most emotional songs i can recall listening to.

Matt Corby – Brother Lyrics 8 years ago
Okay, so he's never going to read anything on this site because he knows the meaning of his own song.
And two, no-one came hear to read about what you think of him. So you know, don't.

Florence + the Machine – Never Let Me Go Lyrics 8 years ago
This is likely when you consider that Florence's song "What the Water Gave me", depicts Virginia Woolfe's suicide.

Of Monsters And Men – Yellow Light Lyrics 8 years ago
Lots of people are talking about luring, or conniving, and i think this is the key. The way that the music goes on for 2 and a half minutes after the lyrics end, and it's repetitive nature, is for me, like halgerl said, the insanity, as it gets louder and more insistent.
A very sublime yet dark song

Lorde – Buzzcut Season Lyrics 8 years ago
I think that the song is more about how everyone is so caught up being superficial and self absorbed that they don't notice the catastrophe unfolding around them.

City High – What Would You Do Lyrics 8 years ago
I think there's a serious moral here - that you can't be too quick to judge someone on their situation i life.
Also that men get off easy - have you ever noticed the socially percieved view of single mothers vs/ single fathers?
Mothers are shunned whilst fathers are raised onto a pedestal.
