Mimicking Birds – The Loop Lyrics 12 years ago
It's a song about the natural cycles the universe goes through. Stars and planets die and explode, but the energy lives on to create new stars and planets. But it could also be an allegory of life. We live our lives creating and losing and creating until we die. We drift away from people and places to become part of something new and different, and even that disintegrates to restart eventually. "The Loop" is about how our lives are very parallel to how the universe works. Also, it's interesting that Issac Brock from Modest Mouse does backing vocals, as multiple Mouse songs are centered around similar concepts: 3rd Planet, Never Ending Math Equation, Gravity Rides Everything, The Stars Are Projectors, Night On The Sun, You'll See and at least a dozen more.
So in conclusion, our lives are just as much a cycle of destruction and rebirth as the universe is.

Cage the Elephant – Lotus Lyrics 12 years ago
it's most definitely about the evils of modern/organized religion, and about how it doesn't just destroy the world, it also destroys people on a personal level. being deeply religious can have a way of numbing people to reality and to themselves, and they fail to recognize that the efforts to find salvation can be just as destructive as what you're trying to save yourself from.

Alice in Chains – Rooster Lyrics 12 years ago
Rooster is about a lot more than just Vietnam.
At the peak of my depression, I would listen to the Unplugged version every night while trying to fall asleep.
To me, Rooster is about isolation, giving up all hope, and wanting to give up; but at the same time knowing that you can't. Sometimes, even when everything is destroying you and you've gotten nowhere, you have no choice but to keep going. It's not necessarily a message of hope, but a realization that sometimes you have no choice but to survive.
