Siouxsie and the Banshees – Israel Lyrics 9 years ago
@[skunkweed:3058] Zionism is the movement for Jewish independence, as much a "belief" as the movement for Japanese or American independence. That said, the restoration of David's kingdom is intrinsic part of the Jewish religion.

The guitarist is certainly not R****t S***h, it is the late, great John McGeoch whose masterpiece is the entire album Ju Ju.

Who lit the fuse in "Palestine"? Could be a reference to the British Empire, which, rather than adhering to the League of Nations mandates, restricted Jewish immigration to Mandate Palestine while allowing largely unfettered immigration into the territory by Arabs as it began to prosper under early Jewish efforts. This led to the imbalanced demographics that made war a possibility. The British had no such qualms about preventing Jewish immigration into the Arab territories for which it had the mandate (Transjordan), so there was a precedent for a quid pro quo. Apparently, the British feared a backlash from the Arabs (and the associated problems relative to the Suez Canal and the oil fields) more than from the Jews, so much so that in 1939 it formally blocked Palestine as an escape route for the Jews of Europe.

Manic Street Preachers – Die In The Summertime Lyrics 10 years ago
The ruining lines are the lines of age - ageing being the thing the author has issues with here. In fact the lines caused by self-harm are considered to be part of the author's "fixed ideal", i.e. "sadly [they] heal".What the author is really objecting to is life itself as a natural process. He sees it as something that only brings death/decay (so much you are increasingly staining the soil), yet as he acknowledges elsewhere life also brings new life. If children are not on your personal radar though then, yes, life does only bring (personal) death in the end, hence the desire to stay forever young and the fear of decline from your fixed ideal - which one might say could include the holy bible itself. The Manics (Richey) always did say that they wanted to make one album and split up. Perhaps it wasn't until the holy bible that Richey felt he had achieved that ideal - which to be fair is largely true. After that, perhaps the only direction is down - especially if James plays you a demo of Kevin Carter and sees some disappointment in your eyes.

Nicky on the other hand, while far less original in his imagery, does at least say "the only thing I want to do is live, no matter how miserable it is". He is not only continuing to make music - that is increasingly positive - but more importantly in terms of legacy he is raising a family.

Manic Street Preachers – Show Me The Wonder Lyrics 10 years ago
This is no threat
Just an invitation
A sense of belonging
A sense of inspiration

Is Heaven a place
Where nothing ever happens?
is it too much to ask
To disbelieve in everything?

Show Me The Wonder
I have seen the birthplace of the universe
Show Me The Wonder
I have seen miracles move in reverse

If you're exiled
By all the cruel tongues
Then show me the wonder
The wonder of your love

The tapping pain of madness
Running through the veins
We may write in English
But our truth remains in Wales

Show Me The Wonder
I have seen the birthplace of the universe
Show Me The Wonder
I have seen miracles move in reverse

Praying for the silence
When we look into the mirror
Staying so patient
We measure the nostalgia

Is Heaven a place
Where nothing ever happens?
is it too much to ask
To disbelieve in everything?

Show Me The Wonder
I have seen the birthplace of the universe
Show Me The Wonder
I have seen miracles move in reverse
Show Me The Wonder
I have seen miracles move in reverse
