@[gacannon:3821] You're not very bright now are you? The meanings of this song is just SO. PATENTLY. OBVIOUS that only a retard wouldn't get it and would refer to is as "nonsense". |

@[Blackveilbrideloveletter:3820] I agree. The "faces come out of the rain" part probably has a lot to do with drugs. Social outcasts take mind altering drugs sometimes to escape the loneliness they feel. |

It's about infatuation with someone that you can only have for a brief while...My ex-gf and I listened to this song last year and even back then it made me sentimental and rather sad because I KNEW that I would lose her. She was preggers with her exes kid and I couldn't provide for her and the baby and it just seemed so unrealistic for me to be with her after someone elses child would be born unto her and take my place in her life. |

Definitely a thought provoking song. It's about a guy named Ricky who mostly came from a dysfunctional family, just finished high school and finds himself kicked out of the house(watch the music video!), with nowhere to go and nothing to look forward to(obviously had no money for college). He's full of anger towards the world and decides to go down the "live fast and die young" track and becomes an alcoholic to deal with his bitterness and frustration. But then things go from bad to far worse when he carelessly shoots a gun in the air and accidentally kills an innocent child. Now he's not even out of his teens but in prison for life with no chance to turn his life around. |

@[Lovinu:3152] Michael Hutchence did NOT deliberately commit suicide. He died by autoerotic asphyxiation. His family was so embarrassed that they pressured the media to keep a lid on what really happened. |

This song just reeks of Romeo and Juliet. A passionate love affair that both people know is unrealistic because the circumstances and outside forces in their lives will not permit them to be together....But they follow their hearts and their lust for each other and fall madly in love. But the minor key and the second verse speaks of it all coming to a tragic end even though the song doesn't describe what happens to them afterwards. |

@[aheartthatbends:3151] I TOTALLY agree! This is the theme song of my ill-fated relationship that occurred last year. Towards the end, in early November 2014, she said after weeks of horrendous fighting that "it's okay to date other people" and so I played it for her and we stood there embracing each other. It couldn't work because she was pregnant with her previous bf's child and still had emotional ties with her first bf whom she talked to almost everyday. Also, she's borderline so she just couldn't be a good girlfriend to me. |

It's about a man with an internal conflict towards the woman he involved with. As others have point it out, it's about human imperfections and how people lust after what they can never have and strive towards an unattainable ideal instead of making the most out of what they can actually get. I've been in this situation many times before when it comes to romantic relationships. |

I remember when this song was on the radio back in 1989. I was 10 years old so I payed no attention to it cuz folksy music was just not my thing. But now that I'm grown and have faced financial hardships I can REALLY appreciate it.
In a nutshell, this ballad is an all-too-common story about generational poverty and the false hope of the American dream. As others have said, Chapman tells it like it really is. Very powerful and tragically real. |

BALDERDASH! This song is criticizing organized religion(as opposed to spirituality)and how it oppresses people by teaching them to accept injustice and needless suffering in exchange for a bountiful afterlife. He did believe in an afterlife, but he also believed we should focus on THIS life we have here on Earth while we are still living. |

Oh hells yeah! Particularly when he sings "my generation will put it right........we're not just making promises, that we know WE'LL NEVER KEEP". That sounds an awful lot like the Baby Boomers who promised to change the world for the better but never kept those promises and never really intended to after all. |

You actually are correct. And HawaiiJack, the video depicting Reagan as superman was meant to be lampooning the view of Ronald Reagan in the 80s as a mythic leader who could solve all the worlds problems with a smile. Superman was a sci-fi renditioning of the story of Jesus Christ. |

Best line from the song. The protagonist realizes that if she can do that to a man she married, that speaks volumes about the kind of person she is. Once a tramp, always a tramp! He uses his rational mind to override his emotions and stop himself from being seduced by her sex appeal. |

When he sings "but I dont know if you know who I am", that is somewhat of a projection. What he's really saying is "you are not the person that I thought I had married".... He's also expressing his anger at her for betraying his trust. |

Wow, I remember hearing this song on the radio in the 90s but I didnt really like that kind of music so I ignored it..........How I wish I'd know better. This is a GREAT song! It's blunt and to the point. It isn't really about women abusing men or men abusing women, it's very much about how having low self-esteem leads people to treat you badly. I've dealt with this before in my life and finally learned my lesson: IF YOU DONT STICK UP FOR YOURSELF, NOBODY ELSE WILL.
People will treat you far better when you have their respect rather than their sympathy or their infatuation. |

| The Cure – Jumping Someone Else's Train Lyrics

This is probably the BEST song ever written and recorded by The Cure. It is a fitting description of certain subcultures: Most notably beatniks, mods, goths, and hipsters. But honestly I think this song is very much aimed at pretentious people. Being pretentious is engaging in pretense, pretense is the act of pretending to be something you're not.
More specifically, normal people who pretend to be different and seek out obscure music that they themselves did not create and quite often is music that really isn't good at all just so they can seem "speshul" and unique. The irony is that these people are all carbon copies of each other.
It's like some shallow goth girl who says "I'm weird".....Well princess, if you actually were weird you wouldn't go around saying it! Or a hipster who calls themselves a "nerd". REAL neirds don't use that term as a label to call themselves. |

This songs lyrics have a very post-apocalyptic theme to them. Particularly when Stan sings "out my window there's nothin where a city used to be, phone line dead the power gone there's nothin on TV! cant understand what happened to, all the plans I made! I turn on the radio and hear the signal fade...." Given that this song was written and recorded in 1982, it reminds me of someone waking up to the aftermath of a nuclear war and thinking of how trivial and superficial his life focuses have been. |
