| I agree! They kind of wrap humour around their thoughts on controversial issues like religion and homosexuality and the church's hypocrisy. I think the funniest bit is when he says he was minding his own business, while he was peeling stuff off the roof to peep inside :D | |
| Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra – The Killing Type Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This entire song sounds like a denial. She repeats "I'm not the killing type" constantly like she's trying to convince herself. "I wouldn't kill to save a life" and "I wouldn't kill to win a war" shows that she wouldn't kill a fellow human being for all the regular reasons, but right after listing this she basically screams, "but, I would kill to make you feel!" Who? The "you" makes the whole song a bit ambiguous. She could be talking about how she's desperate to move her lover, to make them love her the way she loves them. Or she could be talking about her audience. Theatre, music...art in general sparks emotion in people..but sometimes when it doesn't, it loses its purpose. So this desperation she or any artist has for a reaction causes such an intense feeling it needs an outlet like murder..but again she's "not the killing type", her morals wouldn't allow it (like when she stepped on the bird), so she uses this song. "I would kill to make you feel, but I couldn't do that it is wrong, but i can say it in a song" |

| Little Joy – Don't Watch Me Dancing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| @kellykelly I love your analysis analysis! And I agree with the dancing being a metaphor for relationships. "Sways between suitors on a broken heel" tells me that she goes from one relationship from another with a broken heart. She's so obsessed with social standards and keeping up appearances, it seems she's even afraid of how people would react to her true personality "she'd rather be scarred than be scarred with looks" . So she's spent years acting (indicated by acting refs like "costumes" "tired reenactments), until she meets the guy. But I think she's still preoccupied with the social thing, because "don't watch me dancing" is repeated. Maybe now she wants to live her life or maybe start this relationship out of sight from the public eye. Btw this is one of my favourite songs :D | |
