| @[thebandfav:34530] What. You got no SPELLCHECK? Cause you sure can't write a sensible sentence! | |
| The Band – The Weight Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| @[smuggler:34529] Well that's a mouthful said! But I fear you are running away with your colorful imagination! The song is a catchy, rather unusually literate string of meaningless rhymes. Like The Beatles "Two Of Us." It's fun, silly. Still a good exercise in musical enjoyment. | |

| Fleetwood Mac – Landslide Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Geez this is such a high art song. You gotta approach it with your most poetic ears open wide. A landslide is a crushing cataclysm. Everything in this lyric refers either to intervals in the past, or the future of sweeping cataclysm, 'landslides.' "I took my life and I took it down. I climbed from a hole and I turned around." How many of us - "our generation" I mean, specifically, Nicks' generation, the " baby boomers" who were born to be wild. -. how many of us created our own episodes of chaos and revolution, bringing it all down, to start again another day, in a different way? And then we've all had that experience of self reflection, looking into those mirrors in the sky where Nicks sees her old self, before her latest landslide takes her down. Her need to understand is existential: "But time makes you bolder, children get older, and I'm getting older too...So, take this life [but] don't take it down..." As we get older, our landslides mostly behind us (we hope!), our children all grown and gone, (probably to create their own landslides), we again grope toward something new, one last, grand landslide to change everything. "maybe the landslide will bring it down...down." Ya, 'The Kids Are Alright' with their constant new beginnings. It's the way they live, you know. |

| Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
This is a lyric that wishes it were as powerfully psychedelic as The Beatles "I Am The Walrus," and comes close - with it's whirligig of symbols, moods, and exotica references. Dylan with a side of California Gold; 1.) two dancers aimlessly spinning in circles ( the Fandango is a folkloric dance of Spanish origin, wherein two dancers gyrate and spin in a sort of free-form confusion. ) 2.) a plethora of drink to power the frantic performance before a crowd of pub crawlers.(waiter brought the tray ) 3.) the miller ( a grist mill operator, producing flour ( "white" which fades to pale…have the drunken dancers had too much to drink, and turned a nauseous drinker's pale? 4.) "no reason" and "truth is plain to see." The two dancers have fallen out of step in their queasy drukeness. Nothing makes sense now. 5.)there were not 16 Vestal Virgins in Greek mythology counted, but only an indeterminate number. The meaning of the writer's use of "sixteen" virgins has no sensible link to anything in particular. Might as well have been 12…or 23. This is where the lyric begins to fall short of "Walrus." There is no discernable connection to logic. Drunk, stoned or straight, it's a throwaway line. [The writer's eyes "might just as well have been closed.] 7.) The famous line, "Her face at first so ghostly/Turned a whiter shade of pale." Riterates the earlier suggestion of nauseous paleness. n the verge of hurl! 8.) The End And so I say that this lyric, in its brevity and opaque puzzling, while written in he same vein as "I Am The Walrus," actually fails. It tells no story. In a quest for meaning, then, we have to resort to just grooving on the music. The sound is so unusual, so dreamy and beckoning to the listener to enter the song. It's a melody lacking any real meaning. Might just as well have been an instrumental act. |

Hey people! A new day is dawning up here in Canada. We've just elected a new, young, progressive prime minister. Justin James Trudeau, age 43, married with one child. HE IS the scion and first son of our legendary prime minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the revolutionary "hippie" (hard-left) prime minister for 19 years all the way through the Sixties and Seventies. ( a record ) He was hip. Trudeau peˆre (elder) wore sandals in parliament ( Good Heavens! Get the smelling salts!), took to hippie style living, thumbed his nose at the Establishment ( U.S. president Tricky Dick Nixon called him a queer and a commie!) The feeling was mutual. The elder Trudeau was independently wealthy, and had never worked a day in his entire life until his sudden elevation to the top job in Canada! Trudeau gave safe haven to American draft dodgers during the war in Vietnam. His greatest legacy is our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, a Supreme Law that protects citizens from wrongful interference by police or government - among a host of other groovy things. Trudeau hosted John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the prime minister's office on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in 1969.. They came away calling Trudeau "one of the beautiful people." NOW….Trudeau fils (younger) under the Liberal Party banner has swept the country, winning a massive majority in Parliament. Trudeau used a phrase during his campaign, "SUNNY WAYS" which reminded me of "GET TOGETHER." The two couplets inspire the same sentiment. "Let's everybody get together in the sun and find a new way'" On the front burners of his ministry: 1) legalize marijuana 2) get out of bombing Syria, instead work with Syrian army to arm and train them. 3.) Take in as many Syrian refugees as possible, as quickly as possible. 4.) TAX the ONE PER CENT to the max. Share the wealth. Canada is gonna be groovy again, very soon, thank fruggin Chrish! FAR OUT! |

| Billy Joel – You're Only Human (Second Wind) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
This is a classic Billy Joel composition, for sure. He typically writes musical passages that soar around in circles, up and down the scale, as much beat-oriented as it is melody-oriented. Definitely "vertical music": Viz: Compare the difference between McCartney tunes ["Be bop, be bop bop, be bop be-bop-bayyy"] and his buddy Lennon's tunes. Lennon picks a note or an interval and carries it in variations right through to the end. Think of "Imagine" Call up the first few bars of "Imagine" in your head, and you'll see exactly what I mean. "( The tune "Be Bop" is from the LP "Wings Wild Life." ) . And the point is? The point is that "vertical" compositions tend to feel uplifting and fun. The perfect cure for depression or suicidal thinking! Billy Joel even out-ccoposes Macca because his lyrics always convey a clear narrative,. Many classic Macca tunes have nonsensical lyrics. I think it was very noble of Billy Joel to work up this irresistible, fun tune with the aim of helping out maybe just one depressed or suicidal youth- or hopefully many more - to catch their "Second Win." This tune gets 5 stars from me! |

@[defunct:2158] NOW that we know how the boors and red-necks behave I'm proud to stay that I live in a country where - above all else - politeness, inoffensiveness and good manners prevail. I choose HERE, thank-you. ( MY country also controls guns. I'm doubting about yours, sir or ma'am.) |

| The Rolling Stones – Salt Of The Earth Lyrics | 11 years ago |

@[quietes:300] ME replying to MYSELF! What an ass am I. I wrote [above] about the Stones' "Salt of the Earth" : "it had never been recorded, in any form, elsewhere [except on the Rock n Roll Circus film]" I was wrong, people. Yes it was recorded on an LP - "Beggars' Banquet" A very nice version of "Salt" there, too. Still, the live "Circus" version of "Salt" has more heart and sonic depth to it, with a hired gospel choir joining in. My excuse is, I just turned 60…so gimme a break! Dementia Settles In. I'm off for my free "seniors' coffee at McDonalds now…..see ya! Will T. Vancouver, Canada. |

| The Rolling Stones – Salt Of The Earth Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I've heard this 1968 Stones song referred to as "the ultimate drinking song" in the rock n' roll bible. Hmm….could be. If ANYBODY could do it, it would be the Stones, the Modern Priests of Rhytym and Blues. Nobody here has yet mentioned that this extended filmic music video reflects the competitive fire set under the arses of The Stones in 1968 to get a film of their own for TV, just like the Beatles had in December 1967 with "Magical Mystery Tour, " (which bombed!). It's well-known that the Beatles and the Stones kept a sort of friendly competition going, with Macca having written and given away to Jagger a couple of early singles. (Sorry, can't recall the titles right now. Old age! {Maybe "Not Fade Away"??!}) The Beatles' "Mystery Tour" got an awful, scathing reception from audiences and critics alike! Everybody hated it. Nevertheless the Stones liked the concept of a TV film and felt that they could best the Beatles and get it done right! And they did, really. The Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus was filmed in December 1968 under a real three-ring circus tent, with a cast of many stars: The Who, Taj Mahal, John and Yoko, Marianne Faithful, "The Dirty Mac" (Lennon in another persona), Eric Clapton.and others. But "Circus" never aired! Not on BBC TV as was intended, not anywhere! The Stones withheld it for mysterious reasons. (One rumour has them feeling upstaged by their guests, The Who.) So "Circus" stayed in the can until finally, in 1996 being released on DVD.THIS fan had been on pins and needles the whole time, because "Salt of the Earth" could only be procured in its filmed format as the closing number for The Rock n Roll Circus - it had never been recorded, in any form, elsewhere. What a thrill! This was the world's first peek at Keef singing alone. He sings the opening verse of "Salt", then Jagger takes over to finish the song. Throughout the song the camera pans across familiar faces: look,, there's Lennon, and Faithful, and Townshend of The Who! All mixing with "ordinary folk" - the "Salt of the Earth - type folk!" Major groovy, Man! |

| Bonnie Tyler – It's A Heartache Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I'm a husband trapped in a big "Heartache,' and man, does this song HURT! I bleed all over the place when I hear this song. Forty years with my man, the last 25 falling apart. [Ya, I said "MAN" - gay couples ain't so different from breeder couples. If anything, our breakups are tougher, with all that testosterone roaring around, wreaking destruction X 2!! Two men can beat on one another real good.] I say I'm "trapped" because we're a prosperous professional couple with reputations and appearances to keep up. Being accustomed to having money and the comforts it brings, we just can't split our assets/finances in half. That would mean a major downgrade of Lifestyle for both of us. Can't do that, no way. "It ain't wise to need someone as much as I depended on you" < This really applies double-powered for men in our society. It's the old stereotype: "Man" as tough, rough and, especially, independent. Macho Man,ya know? F*k! |

| Elton John – Midnight Creeper Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Ya man! There was nobody cooler, more hip than EJ in these banner years. He had, as another commenter says here, branded his "teen idol" persona brilliantly, and amazingly, the lyrics by Taupin are as integral to the fantasy image as the music. I'd go so far as to say that he grabbed our imaginations as much, or possibly more, than had done The Beatles. But fleetingly. The Beatles live on eternally. Elton will fade away with the generations. |

| Elton John – Midnight Creeper Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Ahh...the good old days of "young Elton"! What a rocker! No other song I can think of compares to this number. This period in EJ's work, up to and including "Captain Fantastic" works perfectly at creating not just great music, but also Elton's self-styled rock n roll idol persona. He created his own little "Elton John World," quite consciously, in perfect union with Bernie's lyrics. The Global World of Elton John - Midnight Creeping into our imaginations.....! |
