Duran Duran – Planet Earth Lyrics 12 years ago
This isn't meant to be depressing at all. It's about a new generation, who are saying that they are as much part of this life as the older generation. It's a proclamation saying that a new generation has arrived and is here to stay, so it's up to those who are either unable or unwilling to connect with the new generation to come down to earth [let me know if you're coming down to land] so they can live together, the way it should be.

Genesis – For Absent Friends Lyrics 12 years ago
This is a song in which Phil's influences as a lyricist are quite evident. Whereas most of the lyrics on the Nursery Cryme album are filled with literary references and seem like mythical stories from times long gone, this one song has an immediacy that would come to set the tone for Phil's extremely successful solo career. Two widows go through the ritual of visiting a church, their way of honouring the memory of their absent friends. Although a big part of their life seems to have been lost, they notice that life goes on around them and that they are not alone. A simple song about loss and hope.

Genesis – Evidence of Autumn [*] Lyrics 12 years ago
Tony's lyrics are always very poetic. They sometimes confound but more often move me. Although musically the song bears a strong resemblance to Heathaze, these lyrics are more straightforward. It's about that one person in your life that you feel you've been waiting for all your life. The one who lights up your life, touches your heart... and then breaks your heart by leaving. The title implies that - like autumn - this is something that is inevitable and happens to everyone.

Duran Duran – Winter Marches On Lyrics 12 years ago
This is the first of a trilogy about loss. Do You Believe In Shame was about grieving, Ordinary World about moving on. Winter Marches on is, in my opinion, about the realisation that you someone you love is going to die. The title refers to the inevitability of death, as winter is something that doesn't stop for anyone.
As with most of Le Bon's lyrics, it's hard to dissect the words line by line, which is part of the beauty of this song. Combined with the haunting music, this is one of the most intimate DD-songs. As with most DD-ballads, it's a gem.

Duran Duran – Ordinary World Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about loss. It was considered to be the closing part of a trilogy about loss, which started with Winter Marches On (1986), continued with Do You Believe In Shame (1988) and ended with this song. Winter... is about how to cope with the knowledge that someone you love is slowly dying, Shame is about the grieving, saying goodbye and Ordinary World is about remembering and moving on to a new world, which you hope which you hope will either be or become ordinary.

Genesis – After The Ordeal Lyrics 12 years ago
On the release of the Selling England By The Pound remaster, Tony Banks singled this one out as the weakest track on the album, the one track he never felt quite comfortable with. Although guitarist Steve Hackett does some great work on this instrumental, it lacks the depth and scope of the four big tracks, but goes nicely with the shorter, more conventional tracks. Tony and Phil are given little to do, this is Steve´s show all the way.
