Ok. Here's what I think. This song is about a guy, his friend, and his friend's girlfriend, who is also his friend. So for identification purposes, let's call them Matt, James and Jen, respectively. The 3 friends hang out together, but Matt loves Jen (maybe a bit more than a friend). It's an impossible romance/connection. I didn't want to be the one to forget I thought of everything I'd never regret A little time with you is all that I get That's all we need because it's all we can take ---> I really like hanging out with you, but it's not one on one and not often, because you're not my girl. So he chains himself to a friend - James, because he knows it unlocks like a door - allows him to see Jen. Of course Matt's torn, he doesn't want to hear about Jen's problems with James - 'I listened to your problems Now listen to mine' I didn't want to anymore One thing I never see the same when your 'round I don't believe in him - his lips on ground --> This means, James is putting on an act when they all hang out together - that he's not the same sweet guy when Jen's not around. This is a bit sneaky : It didn't matter what they wanted to see He thought he saw someone that looked just like me The summer memory that just never dies We worked too long and hard to give it no time - This shows a relationship developed between Matt and Jen (specifically they hung out alone together - maybe at the "Roche"), that James suspected was much more than friendship. He sees right through me it's so easy with lies Cracks in the road that I would try and disguise He runs his scissor at the seam in the wall He cannot break it down or else he would fall - More suspecting from James, but Matt tries not to let his true feelings show - Cracks in the road means he's prob mentioned Jen, or reacted a certain way at the mention of her, that gives away that he cares. And we will never be alone again 'Cause it doesn't happen every day Kinda counted on you being a friend Can I give it up or give it away --> Matt will always cherish his time with Jen, (especially their time alone, cause it doesn't happen every day) but it's also hard to be her friend in this situation, so he sometimes wishes their connection never happened. Sorry about all the run-on sentences! :) |
