The Sundays – God Made Me Lyrics 12 years ago
I played this song in the car once with an Atheist friend and he looked at me incredulously. He thought it was a Christian rock song because he was concentrating on the hook to much.

God Made Me actually doesn't appear to be championing belief as much as it's apathetic towards it:

"If only I could love my neighbor"

"We'd love to be good but we'd rather be bad
But how was I supposed to know that?"

It almost seems like a cry for guidance, and more so than the general religious indoctrination:

"God made me
That's what they told me before
Who knows what they'll say today?"

So it's not really a pro-God song, nor is it claiming disbelief in one, but seems to point the finger at the concept of sinning (which comes from Religion, which is really just a bureaucracy that surrounds God, but isn't necessarily connected to one)

"Imagine my eyes when I first saw
We can do what we want"

The Sundays – Your Eyes Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm thinking this song is about the realization that your significant other is losing interest in you/the relationship:

"We're far too drunk to see these things as they are"

"Your eyes have lost their shine"

The Sundays – On Earth Lyrics 12 years ago
On Earth is saddening. I think they're implying that this girl named Sarah is close to committing suicide. Moving from town to town and being on the outside is getting to her. The references to heaven seem to be about happiness in general.

It can be interpreted from the last lyric that she does, in fact, go through with it:

"And a heaven on earth is all ours but not now
I tell you when a heaven on earth is all ours
Come on down"

Basically, you've got to persevere through the hard times to find what you want in life. To me, it's not a matter of offing yourself to avoid the pain of depression. What you'll find there won't be solace, but really..well nothing. You won't be able to "Come on down" once that decision is made. Which is the point of that last lyric, in my opinion. Very good!

The Sundays – Nothing Sweet Lyrics 12 years ago
Nothing Sweet seems pretty straight forward, it's about having a bad dream/nightmare. The character wonders why the mind puts their body through so much at night, as their worst terrors play out while asleep, like drowning or getting into a car accident.

The Sundays – Life Goes On Lyrics 12 years ago
I believe this song is a lot about The Sundays becoming disillusioned (or perhaps they weren't illusioned at all) with the Music biz. It didn't make Static & Silence, but was probably recorded in those album sessions. As the title suggest, it could be about them moving on from their band.

Or not. Music is subjective after all.

The Sundays – Life & Soul Lyrics 12 years ago
It's a pretty song, but has an almost creepy sound to it. Life and Soul sounds like any day at the beach, but really taking in the moment and bearing you life(and soul) while in the water.

If anything, it's a very introspective song that, to me, begs not to be interpreted literally...I feel bad now =P

The Sundays – A Certain Someone Lyrics 12 years ago
A Certain Someone is one of the most confusing Sundays songs I've come across, but I'll attempt to explain my interpretation.

I'm probably way of base, but to me it's about initially striking out on your own. There's a certain amount of self-centeredness that comes with that mindset, wanting to prove yourself to the world, you peers, and finally your family. With independence comes a greater sense of ownership:

"If I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn't share it with anyone else but me"

However eventually, we all find that "A Certain Someone" who changes our perspective a bit:

"Yeah, if I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn't share it with anyone else but me
Except perhaps a certain someone"

The lyric "You're too twisted by half, but that's far enough" is hard to discern, as it could mean a multitude of things. In my opinion, it's the clashing between two ideas, whether or not to stay aloof and single, or to settle down and be in a relationship.

The remaining lyrics seem to pertain to the potential out comes of being in a relationship. One is the ominous "Oh, I'd be careful living in a block of flats
And I never take the lift to the top"

For me, I remember living in an apartment complex and having a lot of adult couples upstairs making noise and arguing all the time, and I would do my best to avoid.

The other outcome is just being surprised of things working out:

"I'll never believe what we've found
We figured it out, we figured it out
We lived in a house, in a cold room"

As I said above, it's a confusing song and could mean anything! Catchy tune nonetheless.

The Sundays – Folk Song Lyrics 12 years ago
The song (to me at least) seems to literally be explaining the character climbing a tree:

"I climb higher move towards the fire, blaze sun"

While the surrounding forest occupies their senses:

"Silver trees and a whispering breeze
Are my sight and my sound"

"The thought of heaven couldn't drag me from the path" may be an indication of the danger of climbing so high, but their unwillingness to stray from the destination. Finally the character makes it to the top to watch the sunset.

"Watch until it dies slow falling from the sky
Pale fading sun"

I think this is The Sundays most beautiful song. I hope one day I'll feel as happy as this song makes me.
