| Drive-By Truckers – Goode's Field Road Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
"A man like me don't last too long in prison" "But it's hard to make an honest living and a man takes any help he gets" Probably using his salvage yard as a chop shop, and about to be found out. "And all those friends down at Police Department" Likely made while towing wrecks from accidents. `Ain't much a believer of hiring work from "out of state" But they'll be asking questions when I'm found. ' The person he hired to kill him is not a local - to make it less likely that his life insurance fraud will be uncovered. |

"Got back home from overseas." The only reason a illiterate Alabama farm boy like Uncle Frank would be overseas is to fight in a war - probably WW1. The dam in question is likely Wheeler Dam (completed 1936) or perhaps Guntersville Dam (completed 1939) both of which were constructed by the TVA during the Depression and flooded a significant amount of Alabama farmland. |

According to Patterson Hood, it is about the same murder referenced in "The FIreplace Poker" on the same album: http://www.americansongwriter.com/2011/03/go-go-boots-the-drive-by-truckers/ That would be the murder of Elizabeth Dorlene Sennett: http://shoalscrime.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-liz-sennett-murder.html |
