I think this may be my all time favourite song released by Rihanna. It's stunning to me. I feel like she wrote this song about a previous flame in her life whom is no longer in her life, or no longer wants to be in her life. She still thinks about him, she still loves him, or at least sends love out in his direction regardless of whether or not the sentiment is reciprocated. I'm over 7 months out of a relationship. We no longer speak and from time to time I wonder how he's doing. I walked away from any semblance of a relationship with him as I knew after a lot of thought and reflection he was just always going to affect me negatively. Sometimes I do find myself missing him and regardless of everything that has happened between us I do wish him well and hope that he finds his happiness in life. This song for me reminds me that it's okay to not be bitter about losing someone, even if that someone wasn't good for you. It's about loving someone enough to walk away knowing that it will eventually be a good thing no matter how much it hurts. I feel like we've both been in Rihanna's perspective from this song. I know he has tried to reach out to me and make sure I'm okay as I have for him. Once you've loved someone you will always love them and I know that there will always be a spot for him in my heart, only because he taught me so much about what I deserve and don't deserve. I love him, and that's why I had to leave. Love isn't supposed to be painful. |

This song is about leaving someone behind. She has realized that whoever she is leaving does nothing but hurt her. It may not be intentional on his part, but nevertheless she can't stay anymore and she has to move on. I can definitely relate to this song. My boyfriend and I broke up 6 months ago in 3 weeks. At first I wanted him in my life still as a friend but I have slowly realized that I can't have him in my life at all. Everything about our relationship now is dark and sad. When I see him I want to turn around and walk in the opposite direction. I've realized that he is no good for me in any capacity. This song made me realize exactly what I needed to do--walk away completely. So that is what I've done. We were co-workers--I quit my job. No one really understands the effect that he still has on me. He's reckless with my heart and can't be trusted to hold it responsibly so he doesn't get to at all. We recently had a bit of a falling out and I told him that I couldn't be his friend anymore. When he asked why, I asked him to listen to this song. Sometimes the only way to move on from a relationship, regardless of it being romantic or not, is to walk away completely. For the first time I'm doing something for myself, putting my happiness and well being before his and I couldn't be happier. |

I can imagine myself in 10 or 15 years looking back at my last relationship that ended 6 months ago and thinking about the beginnings of the love while this song plays in the background. When We Were Young is about the glory days of a relationship. Not necessarily a romantic one, though. When you're young, everything is easy and so care free. You can be reckless and yearn for more. In this situation, the restlessness that people feel when they are getting older and develop more and more responsibility is what has torn this relationship apart. "Oh I'm so mad I'm getting old, it makes me reckless" is a perfect example of this. She hates that she is getting older so she begins to be reckless--in this situation she is reckless with her lover or the other half of whatever relationship she is referring to. In my opinion, WWWY is one of the best songs she has ever come out with. It is perfection. |

I think this song can really mean whatever you want it to mean. Adele said in her interview with Graham Norton that 25 isn't about her defining what it means, it is about what her listeners define it as. For me, Hello is about a love that never really would have worked but down the road, 20 years later you are reminded of it. You see them at a coffee shop, you find old photos of them. You start to reminisce about the relationship. All of a sudden, you realize in your maturity that you were wrong. You feel like you owe them an apology. So, you reach out to them but they never give you that satisfaction of accepting that apology. So you're left heartbroken. I think that we can all relate to this. Trying to apologize for something that you've done to someone but having it just be too late. They can't accept it and they won't ever accept it. |

This song really speaks to my current situation. My boyfriend and I of nearly 2 years just split up 2 weeks ago. We had a wild ride while we were together but things got messy and while he tells me that he has to move on, I think he's leaving because he's scared. I know that's why he's leaving. We both did things in the relationship to hurt each other but one thing that remains the same is my unconditional love for him. This song is sort of my way of trying to move on and not be stuck in the pull of his love anymore. I want him to remember all of the good times and the reasons that we were together in the first place while he tries to get himself together. I will always keep him close to my heart and I know I will always love him. We see each other often and the fire is still there. We need to heel and we need to get better. Love can do that no matter what the situation. This song is stunning. I wish time was frozen to when things were simpler and we didn't let things get out of control. I have so many amazing memories with him that are making me hold on, so many plans and promises that I made to him that are making me stick around. |

To me this song is really relevant to my life. I spent the last 2 months abroad in Europe and 12 days in a city in Germany where I think I met my soulmate. We both know it. There is so much fire between us and no one gets it but us. When we were together it was like he was the only person in the room no matter who else was there. Now I'm home back in Canada and I miss him more than I've ever missed anyone in my life. To me, this song is about loving someone so much that everything in your body is telling you to run after them but there is something holding you back (ex. distance). |

To me this song is about being with someone and realizing that they're the ones and trying to get them to take that leap of faith together. "You and me were meant to be, aint no doubt about it, no way to hide that sort of thing" everyone around them realizes that they're meant to be together and now they've realized it. "Now I'm waiting for something better, aint nothing better worth imagining" he's realized that this person is their soulmate after possibly dating other people. "Look for my heart, you stole it away" is my favorite part of this song. He's so in love with this person and they have such a pull towards eachother that he's had his heart stolen from his chest. |
