Seems to me just a song about some people the narrator thought were holding him down socially. Talking behind his back, perhaps gaslighting him, collectively. Maybe those people made amends with him, and he thought it was all in his head. Then his bandmate said it's really about drugs. But in my experience, people really do that to eachother. The group exploits and inverts the individual. Maybe they're all loyal to something you're not, like promiscuity, or certain ideologies, and that causes them to disrespect you, so you feel more and more slighted, until you kinda freak out. I found this song in college, and it really helped me with some issues I was facing. Helped me laugh about it, but also validated my perspective a bit. |

Almost every response said that it was about suicide. I really disagree, and find it very stereotyping of people to think that all metal songs are about suicide. This song to me, is about awakening the self with a kind of painful honesty, and rising above a hypocritical society of denial. It isn't about dying at all, it's about living, awake and aware, in a world of people who are dead inside, mere robots fulfilling a routine of consumption and production. |
