Sully has stated that he writes everything from his experiences. This song to me is about DENIAL and REBELLION. Sully may be a hard drinker (doubt it, based on his religious leanings) or maybe just gets hammered every once in awhile and someone evidentially is worried about him, based on their own experience. Or, on the flip-side he is writing about someone he has encountered that basically said these words to him. Or: it is a mash up of the two. (I really like the “laugh” after “so what you’ve cleaned your act up so far”: AWESOME use of the Sully laugh!!! …I mean everyone slips up, so the laugh is PERFECT!) |

I wrote about this song under Awake...but Sully writes from experiences and those that effect him. He wrote this song about a guy that really pissed him off in the early days and he wrote it out, he has since "made up" with the dude and Sully has to muster the memory of the anger when performing it, but feels better afterward...this from Sully's mouth on "That Metal Show". Talented man, and I was very impressed with his interview. |

Watching "That Metal Show" Sully stated that this song and Whatever is about someone that really pissed him off and the songs were a way to "exercise the anger", and he also stated that those that were in his wrath with these songs, he made "ammends to"...basically he stated that all his lyrics are based on something or someone that has happened in his life and he has to at times remember the place he was in when he wrote the lyrics so he can get the anger in his "growl" and afterward he feels better. It was really insightful, true musician that Sully!!!! |
