Earlier he said you better have good aim. Therefore, they are calling a hunter with a rifle. They are going to kill his joy. If I pick it up when I know that it's broken Do I put it back? Or do I head out on to the lonesome track and let you go? Now of days people do not fix broken things they throw them out. So he is asking do I fix my broken heart and put it back together or do I throw my heart away and let it go. |

"I walked across an empty land" Is a metaphor for him being unhappy and lonely "I knew the pathway like the back of my hand" and he's used to being unhappy "I felt the earth beneath my feet" Unhappiness is the reality for him "Sat by the river, and it made me complete" he's watching someone he love but believe he will hurt them....so keeping a distance make him feel like he is doing the right thing or complete. "Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin" He's wondering, why isn't he happy? he's old and need some one to trust and care for him he's tired of the games... he's asking the person to forgive him because he wants to start over..... "I came across a fallen tree" the love is dying "I felt the branches of it looking at me' and he is to blame "Is this the place we used to love?" he asking this question because he cant believe....how bad things got "Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?" another question because, this is not how he want this to go.... "And if you have a minute, why don't we go' (the metaphor ends) he's trying to talk to her "Talk about it somewhere only we know?" he asking her to meet in a place where they use to go, to bring back happy memories to her 'This could be the end of everything' he believe this is the last chance to get her back( maybe she is getting married to someone else) This is my point of view and i can see the story in my head.... i write music and songs...... thats the understanding i get from this song |
