I believe it is lamenting the sentiment expressed in Jane's Addiction's "Three Days" Excerpt from those lyrics below: I am a proud man anyway... Covered now by three days... We saw shadows of the morning light the shadows of the evening sun till the shadows and the light were one. True hunting is over. No herds to follow. Without game, men prey on each other. The family weakens by the bite we swallow... True leaders gone, Of land and people. We choose no kin but adopted strangers. The family weakens by the length we travel... All of us with wings... |

| I think you all are missing the point of the song. The music and how it's sung suggests a deep longing for acceptance from a lover. There's a raw sensuality going on along with a superficial denial of the physical power her lover has over her. She doesn't want to be the 2nd on his list, she wants to be first, but she helplessly tries to deny it. Haunting to say the least and highly seductive. Also, I believe the "my shoulder's in your pocket, speed dial no 2..." means that her need for his touch resides right there in his pocket. All he has to do is call her when he needs her. She's very available. The song is classic to say the least. | |
