Could this song possible be about the phases of a one sided love obsession? "Well, there's a light in your eye that keeps shining Like a star that can't wait for night I hate to think I been blinded, baby Why can't I see you tonight? And the warmth of your smile starts a burning And the thrills of your touch give me fright And I'm shaking so much, really yearning Why don't you show up and make it alright? It's alright" This sounds like a definite infatuation with someone who randomly came into his life, and now he covets her attention, but he's not getting it or enough of it, so it starts making him uneasy and only want it more. Sometimes feelings like this can cloud your judgment and blind you to reality. "And if you promised you'd love so completely And you said you would always be true You swore that you never would leave me, baby Whatever happened to you? And you thought it was only in movies As you wish all your dreams would come true Hey, it ain't the first time believe me, baby I'm standing here feeling blue, blue Ah, yes, I'm blue" Could he possibly be describing what he want's to believe here? Often times in a one sided love obsession you want to believe the person you care for feels the same way back so badly you almost literally do believe it, even though reality might say otherwise. It's the second phrase that makes me think this here says "And you thought it was only in movies, As you wish all your dreams would come true". also the last line seems to suggest he knows it's not the first time this has happened to him. "Now I will stand in the rain on the corner I'll watch the people go shuffling downtown Another ten minutes no longer And then I'm turning around The clock on the wall's moving slower My heart it sinks to the ground And the storm that I thought would blow over Clouds the light of the love that I found" This to me sounds like part where he waits and waits and wait for some kind of sign from the person he cares about but isn't getting it and facing the inevitable pain of heartbreak, after he had spent so much time trying to convince himself that this person he cares about would end his loneliness when he says "And the storm that I thought would blow over, Clouds the light of the love that I found" "Now my body is starting to quiver And the palms of my hands getting wet I've got no reason to doubt you baby, It's all a terrible mess I'll run in the rain till I'm breathless When I'm breathless I'll run till I drop, hey The thoughts of a fool's kind of careless I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block, oh yeah Light of the love that I found..." This is probably one of my favorite verses in this song. This to me sounds like he knows he needs to let this person go but still doesn't want to and still wants to believe that person could have feelings for him, despite his major suffering. "I'll run in the rain till I'm breathless. When I'm breathless I'll run till I drop" Feelings like that can be really stubborn and difficult to let go of at first but eventually you learn to pick yourself up and try again with someone else. "The thoughts of a fool's kind of careless. I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block, oh yeah". This sounds to me like he knew at the back of his mind he probably fell for the wrong person for all the wrong reasons. Just my thoughts on it. Amazing song. Really love the samba breakdown with the ukuleles. |

| It's a good song. Had some interesting guitar riffs and piano parts and even catchy melodies. Too bad it wasn't more popular. Yea pretty much about that emotional shift you feel when you realize you're in a one sided relationship with someone you really have heavy feelings for. When you like someone you never know for sure whether they'll like you back or not right away and in that time one usually believes that they would and it's all fun and games. Then if and when you find out it's actually the opposite of what you expected, then "the party's over". "I have gone away" to me means how you can go from feeling you get of your world falling in on you, and how it can turn you into a very bitter moody and even surly person that upsets others around and really isn't your normal personality until you can learn to get over your loss. The rest of the lyrics pretty much speak for themselves, though I'm sure "our love is an abyss" signifies how difficult and tedious it is to leave a one sided relationship. Especially if the person still wants you in their friendzone and you still have strong feelings for them. That's pretty much how I relate to this, because I've been there before. It's no party. Not that anyones gonna see this but to this song is about the stress of getting more attention from people then you want to get. "She's one of a kind sometimes hard to find like a rainbow well, she's lost all her glory and could tell you some stories that we all should know" Seems like they describe a women who is not only very beautiful but also very kind hearted as well, and because of this a great many men desire her, and want her for themselves. "And there's too many hands being laid on her. Too many eyes will never see. That it's dragging her down, But you won't hear a sound as She turns 'round" seems to mean she's constantly being flirted with and courted by these men, so much and so persistently that she practically has no room to think and breathe. She wants to be left alone, but she also doesn't wanna be mean about it. "Her beauty all aflight. It always seems to turn the tide at midnight. And for her there is no rest. We are doing what is best for our future." Basically saying most of these men are only thinking of whats for themselves by desiring her, and that aspect sickens her. "One of these days she may not be so good to you. One of these days she might shake you to the ground, but her fire is still burning and her heart is still yearning to be found" Basically she's ready to just tell most of these men to fuck off because none of them interest her but still they persist. She's waiting for someone special. Someone who will not only love her for who she is on the outside but also for what she is on the inside, which she probably feels most of these men who approach her don't understand. Too many hands equals too much attention and not enough room to breathe. The same can be said if you are a famous musician "as most of Eagles songs were about the perks and drawbacks of being famous". When you're famous everyone knows you and wants to be your friend, when in truth all you may want is some room to breathe and it seems you can't even go out in public without someone noticing you wanting your autograph and to be your BFFF. I really like this song for 2 reasons. One the main guitar riff in here KICKS ASS and it soo much fun to play, and two, this song reminds me a lot of a dear friend of mine. She is very pretty and very very sweet, but because of this gets wayyy more attention from guys then she wants. She's deleted and reactivated her Facebook at least 12 times already in the year I've known her. Even I feel bad when I start getting the urge to make a move on her. I might just have to play this song for her some day soon. |

| To me this song seems like it's directed at the people who are very superficial who think the nice person is not for them, and then wonder why they can't find solid relationship when all the asshole egotistical person break their heart. Pretty straight forward if you ask me. I mean just listen to that catchy and most epic chorus. | |
