@[erose99:10526] And the second verse is: It’s why you know, but you can’t tell us so. Just [where] it is you let it go, for fear they'll turn it sour. You can see through the smoke and though you know that's something’s broke You're holding on for now. Aiming for the mark, how is it that your scores light up Like flashlights in the dark? Leading with the heart, you know you're better from the start Don't let it wear you down. |

Eh this is all wrong. First verse should be SOMETHING like: Well are you with them? If not let it go You either gotta rock the boat or have what they’re handing out Now you’re somewhere removed They think you got a while; you’re broke For what you has, you know. Something that you wrote Is gonna make a good lifeboat Asylum for the torn Crumbling below Said if not now, you'll never go So why we waiting? |

It doesn't seem to me to be about a relationship breakup - I think that's other people reading their own experiences into the song. She's saying "We made fire in the snow" - we did something impossible/hard to do. "Some do magic, some do harm" - that's about the way people operate in the world in general surely? It's to do with work - music, art, personal projects. Sounds like she is responding to criticism from somebody close. "Do you laugh while screaming" is about getting through adversity, finding a way to be strong. "Is it cold outside" is about the world. "What is made of cloth?" - what is impermanent? Seems to me to be a defiant answer to a chaotic world. If she's saying "It ain't over" to a partner, it would be a strangely calm, defiant musical setting for that lyric. |
