@[DubC4Life:16012] And there are different ways of dying. Different meanings of dying. And meanings of the afterlife. But maybe all this is obvious to everyone living now in 2016 and beyond.

@[NicoleInWonderland:16011] Yes. It was recorded on Nirvana Unplugged that MTV used to host. The Meat Puppets played with them for this song and at least one other.

Look up the Spike Jonze short done on the video for this song. It's on youtube. He tells you the meaning straight up.

http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-quotes/unkindest-cut-all I read that the title The Final Cut was a reference to this quote from Julius Caesar.

Arcade Fire – Wake Up Lyrics 10 years ago
What about the last part meaning we've lost ourselves in this stupid prolonged adolescence and lack of love and diligence to our truth, and have been "resting on our laurels". He's figured it out, he's fixed what he was doing wrong, he's changed the way he looks at the world and doesn't blame it anymore, but sees that it's always been him that's been wrong. He's taken responsibility. He's humbled himself, he admits he was wrong. Now he carries the truth, the light in his hands, so everybody better get ready to really see yourselves. Because it hurts to see your ugliness - the truth. Or, basically what tj7 says a couple posts back except for instead of "watch out world, get ready for me to make an impact", maybe it's more like hey, our generation is being stupid... "Look out below", like I'm coming to judge you, so you better stop acting like pricks and pay attention/wake up/know thyself...

Animal Collective – Cuckoo Cuckoo Lyrics 11 years ago
adjectives seems to mostly explain the themes very well, but this might sound crazy, but I think the song is based on the musical The King and I (1956 version). If you read the lyrics to the songs in the musical, a lot of it matches up. And if you watch the last 15 minutes of the movie, most of it seems to make sense. Then, if you watch the entire movie, you seem to see the whole Animal Collective song. It's easy to find. I watched it on Putlocker.com. Looking up cuckoo, knowing the way most species lay their eggs in the part of the world that this movie takes place in (It's called Brood Parasitism), and knowing the relation of the word cuckoo to cuckold helps too.
Please comment, I want to hear what other people say about this theory.

Also, one thing I'll say is that at the end the King dies, and Anna(the love interest) rushes over to him and holds his hand. But he is already dead, explaining the lyrics "I can't hold what's in my hand." That was a surprise to get that explained in the very last seconds of the movie.

My favorite interpretation. It also matches with my addition to this explanation. Some things are different, and I think some things are made more clear.
