I love this song! It's all about a guy who's got it for someone, and he's got it bad! He would do anything as impossible as painting the entire sky, and although he hasn't figured out the right words to say, he longs for them to stay just so that they might see the future that they could have together like he does. I love the pain in the "sandpaper sigh" showing just how much this is grating on the narrator of the song. However, in the album there is some ad-libbing, that is not covered in the lyrics page that kind of sounds like "bobbing on, the problem, on the problem, on the throbbing: she was falling I was bawling, but I was stopping, she was throbbing, uh huh" Can anyone shed some light on that ridiculous string of words I put together? |

This song probably doesn't need anymore interpretations, but mine was a little bit different, so I'l post it anyway! I think that the song is like a schizophrenic battle with herself. There are lots of posts that claim that it's just about her fear of the darkness, but I think that it can be her fear of darkness, but go even deeper into that. She is afraid of who she becomes in the darkness, and afraid of losing who she is in the light. "I had a way then, losing it all on my own, I had a heart then, but the queen has been overthrown" I think that talks of how she used to have control in her life, but as she struggled with herself the game changed. Specifically she alludes to a game of chess where when someone's queen piece is taken from them the game shifts and they're on the losing side and have to fight hard to come back to win the game. The "you" I think she is referring to is herself, rather, who she becomes at night or in the dark. "you" turns the old her, or her in the light to stone when she is overcome by the darkness sense of herself. She hears noises in her head and tells herself that she'll be strong and pull through this, but is having trouble. She's glad that her brother and her sister sleep in another place because she's afraid that they'll see her when the darkness overcomes her and she's not herself. Through all of this, the narrator is really just trying to get back to the home, or a safe haven for her to be at peace with herself once again. |

| Lana Del Rey – Dark Paradise Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think the song is pretty straight forward for me, the narrator of this song is in love with someone who has just died. Everyone keeps persuading her to move on with her life, but she can't get over him because when you find true love it lives on. She wishes that she could die so that she could be with him on the other side, but until then she can't forget all of the memories that still run through her head. She is with him in her dreams, but it's a dark pleasure because even though she's with him, she knows he's still gone. | |
| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite, most raw love stories in music. From what I see, the the person in this song is coaxing the girl he loves away from the demons of her past that haunt her, and freeing her from the bars of her own mind that restrain her from openly loving. At first she tries to drink away the pain, but he convinces her to drink with him and share these nightmares. She does and throws her hands in the air so that he can save her and keep all of of her hurts that take her away from him. To him the person that she used to be and isn't anymore doesn't matter. He loves her, and will protect her. | |
| Kid Cudi – The Prayer Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I see this as Kid Cudi's metaphorical musical suicide letter. It's a reflection on his life, and he's making amends with all of the girls that he's dated, and telling his fans that it is for them he made music, not the cash. He even turns to God here a little bit saying that he's trying to make the most of the special purpose that God sent him to make. He is just saying that if he were to die now, he would be happy with the things he's done and the impact he's made on the world. A beautiful song. | |
| Dessa – Dixon's Girl Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The way I see it Dessa is talking about a friend of hers. She admires this girl, but even though everyone is cheering her and her music on to her face, they secretly talk about her abusive relationship behind her back. And because "you have to be big to treat pretty girls bad" Dessa's friend doesn't really stand a chance against this guy, so she say's "It's not much, but my money's on you" saying of course he's going to win if he beats on her. After this abuse Dessa's friend calls her up for "drinks and bad advice", but the girl cycle continues of her getting thrown against and "back to the wall" then going "back to the bar" and looking "back to the drawing board" to see what she can do with herself after. | |
