This song means nothing to me, but it does to my Husband, who made a point of pointing it out to me. I know who 'Marrianne' was, and I know what she means to him. I will always be a mere 2nd best......... Well guess what? He closed his eye's and I slipped away!!! |

A beautiful song I loved to listen to, but now I don't listen to songs anymore as songs like this hurt me even more than the affair my Husband had.
I know that when he listens to these songs they remind him of her.
I feel so sad that I gave up my life to marriage so young, and that I didn't go and seek someone special myself when I realised he could never love me like he loved her.
I have never been that girl in his songs, and maybe if I'd done the right thing I could have met someone who thought of me when he listens to beautiful songs. |

I loved this song. I used to listen to it with my Husband, but I just can't listen to songs anymore because I discovered he is thinking of someone else, someone he loved more than he will ever love me. It was a love affair that couldn't be, and now all he has is songs like this to remind him of her. |

I think she's remembering an impossible love affair, and just wants to be free of the memories so she can move on. "why live life from dream to dream and dread the day that dreaming ends." This is one of my Husbands "memory songs" I discovered a whole load of these "miss you" songs a while back. He had an affair with someone he fell madly in love with, but because they were both married, it couldn't carry on, and now all he has left are these songs............ Just another one of my Husband's "memory songs". He screwed around with an old slapper 30 odd years ago, and managed to fall in love with 'it'.
She dumped him, and he ended up back with me, and we've been together ever since. He thinks I don't know about his "memory songs" and how much she meant to him, but I do, and unfortunately I discovered them all too late. I could have found MY soulmate, but I stuck around with a guy who has never really wanted me, or loved me like he loved HER. I guess I will always be 2nd best!! |

What this song means to me?
It reminds me that I will always be second best in my Husbands eye's.
He had an affair with a girl over 30 years ago, and although she ended it, she will always be the true love of his life. I stayed with him, and we have now been married for 37 years, but he always reminds me of the affair through his music and his favourite songs. This is one of his 'memory songs' and it hurts to know he never loved me, or will never love me half as much as he loved her. Very sad, but true. |
