As mahoganyfox said, the song is pretty self explanatory if you've read the books. Although, I think this song is just about Snow. He is the ruler of Panem and he's letting them all die. I think this song could be about Rue. Katniss saying that Rue is Safe And Sound. "I remember tears streaming down your face, when I said I'll never let you go." This is the part where Katniss is with Rue. Where she's dying. "When all the shadows almost killed your light, I remember you said don't leave me alone. But all that's dead and gone in the past, Tonight." The shadows are the other tributes trying to kill her. One finally did, and Rue told Katniss "Don't leave me alone". "But all that's dead and gone in the past, tonight".. when Rue died. "Just close your eyes, the sun is going down. You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now. Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound." This is when Rue had closed her eyes to listen to Katniss sing. That nobody else will hurt Rue, that she'll be safe. |

As opposed to the Biblical account where Abraham is told by the angel at the last second to spare Isaac, this song supposes that a daughter followed them up the mountain and Abraham mistook her voice for the angel's. The angel then decides to let the daughter take the place of Isaac as the sacrificial lamb/ram, but she defies this decision as well by raising her bow to fight. The angered angel declares that she'd better let young Isaac go - because she will not get to be with him no matter the outcome. This interpretation can directly parallel the story with the angel symbolizing the Capitol, Abraham symbolizing District 12, Isaac symbolizing Prim, and the nameless daughter symbolizing Katniss. |
