Above & Beyond – Thing Called Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I think ultimately, this song is about a man and a woman who were in an established relationship. By the part:

"So here we are, all just the same
And you will never know
My secret plan, how close we came
To share another road"

It's kind of clear that he'd intended to propose to her or something--his "secret plan" to sharing a life with her. Things probably ended abruptly for them, so he never had the chance to ask/tell her.
The part:

"There was a time
There was a place
But there was fear inside
A witty line to save my face
The parachute of pride"

I believe this was the pivotal moment when he might have planned to proposed to her (or something else serious, like a confession of love). But before he could, she probably rejected his confession or perhaps might have mocked him, causing him to retreat behind a mask of pride and crack "a witty line to save [his] face". This ruined it completely.

You know how sometimes you're so completely sincere and honest with someone about your feelings that you feel so vulnerable and open? And when someone makes light of your feelings or rejects you, throwing it back in your face, it REALLY hurts. It's not uncommon for people to be extra defensive/on edge and say a smart comeback to save their pride. I myself have done it and he calls it the "parachute of pride" because to crack a witty comeback in your anger/hurt is always the easy way out, hence "parachute". He could have stayed calm and talked to her about it, but instead he ruined things for them both (assuming that she hadn't ruined it already).

The part:

"To cross a line, takes a tiny step
But will this spark, cause the bridge to burn
My fear entwined with my regret
I'll beat a path to safe return."

This almost cements my theory of his witty but extremely mean/bitter/insulting comeback. He knows he "crossed the line", even if marginally, "but will this spark cause the bridge to burn"?
Or in other words, will the fire of his words "burn the bridge" between them, severing their connection forever? If you know the meaning of "burning your bridges" with someone, the meaning of this becomes clear.
He's obviously regretful but fearful. Of what, I'm not sure, but perhaps he's afraid that things might REALLY be over for them...or that trying to mend things between them will end in bitter failure.

The following parts are pretty self explanatory:

"Have I lost my only chance
To tell you how I feel inside
Is it just me, I'd like to know?
Or are we all just a little blind?

There's a thing called love
That we all forget
And it's a wasted love
That we all regret

You live your life just once
So don't forget about a thing called love
Don't forget, forget about a thing called love"

...Just my take on it. Lovely song by the way. "Group Therapy" definitely did not disappoint.
