| Morrissey – Billy Budd Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Those who think this is about Johnny Marr are correct. Typically of Morrissey, a subtle clue is hidden in the title itself. "Billy Budd" is a novella by Herman Melville, yet it began it's life as a poem intended for inclusion in another of Melville's books. And the title of this other book?: "John Marr and other Sailors" | |
| Morrissey – Come Back To Camden Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
“Come back, come back, dear friend, only friend, come back. I promise to be good." The above line is taken from a letter, dated July 4th 1873, from Rimbaud in London to Verlaine in Brussels and is paraphrased by Morrissey in the final line of the song ("Come back to Camden and I'll be good."). The "discolured dark brown staircase" is a reference to their seedy digs in 8 Great College Street (now Royal College Street), Camden Town. There they lived in a single room on the top floor, accessible only via a staircase (presumably dark and discoloured) and conducted a stormy homosexual love affair (when not writing absinthe-fuelled poetry).
