Walk the Moon – Iscariot Lyrics 13 years ago
This song no doubt contains biblical references, whether the song itself is overtly singing to Judas Iscariot or using Judas as a metaphor for the betrayal of a friend. Does anyone know about the band members' religious involvement? Just curious.

However, from a personal standpoint, the song speaks perfectly to active drug and alcohol addiction. I started listening to this song before entering treatment and then got very into it afterward. Its sombre tone, dedicated friendship, and frustration, to me, sound like the pleas (or hopeless surrender) of a devoted friend to the addicted person who has sabotaged all the help his loved ones have offered.

Of course, I don't think this is the intended meaning, but that's how the song speaks to me.

Regina Spektor – Buildings Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with a lot of comments I've read here about the meaning of this song, and as a young woman who has dealt with a severe alcohol dependency and anxiety disorder, the song touches me deeply.

The song is about an alcoholic woman, her lovingly faithful (and enabling?) husband, and the guilt she feels over the whole situation.

The song talks about her coming home drunk from a party, rotting at the core, taking sick days, etc, so I'm sure most would agree that she has a problem with alcohol abuse.

However, there are subtleties in the way her husband cares for her that shows how ready and willing he is to help her feel better. He gently leans her head in the car, he holds her hair back at the toilet, and he tells her "it's okay". I'm not positive about the buildings part, but I don't think it's hugely symbolic. I agree with the people who think it's small talk. But not small talk to symbolize the meaningless of their relationship, but rather small talk for the sake of him distracting her from her guilt and maintaining light-heartedness.

The wife is horribly guilt-ridden. We see this when Regina says, "her conscience would issue yet another warning". I feel like this is the wifing telling herself, "You'd better get your act together now." I have felt this way on many an occasion. Then the wife begs for time, and her husband always gives her time. I feel like the talk about buildings is just a way of chatting to lift some of the burden from her own conscience.
