| Kurt Vile – Never Run Away Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Honestly it sounds like it's clearly dedicate to his wife, who we all know he adores, but I really like your music interpretation. It could actually be both, songs ain't gotta have only one meaning. | |
| Spacemen 3 – Revolution Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Fuck yeah! Fuck the government. | |
| Stereolab – Monstre Sacre Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| About breaking up with someone you truly loved without forgiving each other, and how it eats you inside for a long time. | |
| Stereolab – The Flower Called Nowhere Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Simple concept - criticizing a generation where love has kinda been forgotten, all that matters is desire. Beautifully, poetically put, though. | |
| Sex Pistols – Problems Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| So you thought you had it all worked out, yeah? Your little job, your little family, your little respectability. Bullshit, what has it done to you? Nothing but unhappiness and death of the soul. Too much to swallow, too much to pretend. Time to throw it all away and live the way you really want. | |
| The Chameleons – Second Skin Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Definitely a very deep meaning, perhaps beyond words/reason. Still I think it's about realising how nothing is meant to be taken serious in the life. You feel like you're losing a big thing, but then you realise it was only a mask. Take off all of your masks and you'll be happy and everything will look clear to you. | |
| DIIV – Doused Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
"Hey bitch, you screwed an amazing relationship." That's what it means, basically. |
|
| The Chameleons – Swamp Thing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| A song about being sick. Sick of empty/negative/full-of-shit people and their empty/negative/full-of-shit ways of living such as empty/negative/full-of-shit 9 to 5 jobs. He's telling them all "LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE AND WAKE UP" | |
| Dinosaur Jr. – Little Fury Things Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's about a bitch. She keeps playing games with him while he tries to reach out for her heart. The video also illustrates this, with the girl doing all that kinda voodoo dance around him while he stands annoyed and feeling down. Pretty simple meaning. Beautifully written though. |
|
| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – If 6 Was 9 Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
"Everything is okay as long as you've got your individuality." That sums up the whole song. Beautiful. Beautiful. Thank you so much. |
|
| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – If 6 Was 9 Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| No, it's actually way less poetic and way more narrow-minded. | |
| Depeche Mode – A Question Of Time Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Shit, you guys are all really dumb. Only Killee has made an intelligent interpretation so far. The meaning is simple. The narrator wants to save an innocent person (or many) from becoming cheap and cheesy, just like the majority of the human population ("the rest"). |
|
| Chuck Berry – Havana Moon Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Pure genius. | |
| Tame Impala – Lucidity Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Incredible how in 5 comments, 4 didn't even refer to the meaning of the song, and 1 only referred to the most obvious and futile meaning ("ooohhh maaaan let's get hiiiiggh" etc). This only shows how the world is rotten. In my interpretation, this song has no linear meaning. But it's certainly about not feeling quite lucid, but not necessarily from drugs. It's about not being sure of things. But also the beauty and freedom of that ( And we'll go running off\tonight, high above, where we\won't even need to reach the \sky, my love.) But what's really interesting is not these themes, which have been widely used in other lyrics, but the way Kevin writes it. Very original, very colorful. |
|
| Pixies – Blown Away Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I don't think this song has any linear meaning at all. It's just pure feeling. Yes, it could be about all those things you guys have said, but it's surely not a linear lyric. It doesn't mean to say something, but rather to express a state of mind. In this case, a state of mind of mysteriousness, weirdness, and existencial stuff. | |
| Frank Black – Whatever Happened To Pong? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Brilliant lyrics and a brilliantly hidden message - whatever happened to PUNK? "My brother and me used to play it down at the bar Taking money from guys More used to the playing of cards" Frank and Joey Santiago use to play it (the punk) with the Pixies at lots of bars, when they started. Getting paid from guys more interested in any other stuff ("cards"). "Paddle the paddle to the side to the side To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle Paddle the paddle the side to the side" Punk moshing, or just punk rebellion and energy. "Pong Ball in the machine" Punk - wound in the system. "Now virtually everyone's singing A popular song But I still believe in In the excellent joy of the Pong" Everyone's singing bullshit pop, but I still believe in the good days of pop music, such as the days of punk rock. To the side to the side to the paddle the paddle "Now if they take it HG Wells Well, I'll be on the first flight To a time before the Kong Whatever happened to Pong?" I'd love to go back to the times of punk rock (late 70's). |

| Os Pontos Negros – Magnífico Material Inútil Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Uma das melhores músicas de uma dos melhores albums de rock português. Estilo inovador e sem tretas, o que é raro na música portuguesa. | |
| Pixies – All Over The World Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song ain't got such a defined meaning, like all other Pixies songs, but it's definitely about all that's been said already. The bottom line of it's meaning, to me, seems to be the line "Time is an arrangement, I am a derangement". That feeling that existence is a prison where everything is determined and everything is meant to serve some purpose, and you just wanna be free from all that. Getting off the circles, like someone said before. | |
| The Strokes – Alone, Together Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| These lyrics are rather a collage of some thoughts than something with linear meaning. Agree with the comment below. | |
| The Strokes – Take It Or Leave It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Sorry, but none of you guys got the meaning of this yet... It's pretty simple. It's just saying "fuck that mating game bullshit, were girls gotta act false and guys gotta act tough. I'm out of that shit forever. This is me, take it or leave it" |
|
| Franz Ferdinand – Cheating on You Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This lyrics are just much more beautiful and much less linear than you close-minded dumbheads think. | |
| The Small Faces – Song Of A Baker Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| No fool, it's about love. Metaphors, ever heard of it? | |
| Otis Redding – (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Read ho-ju's comment... At least, someone who gets it right! Not sad, not happy song. Or maybe a bit of both. But mostly - meditative. "I can't be a follower anymore. I know myself. I don't need to accomplish things in order to be happy. I'll just waste my time contemplating the world, the simple things of life, like the dock of the bay, that's all I need to be happy". |
|
| Led Zeppelin – The Wanton Song Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| guys... why complicate things so much... this is not black death trash gothic true metal... this is just rock'n'roll... rock'n'roll is about simplicity, and its deepness comes from simplicity... this is a wonderful, full of poetry song about a wantom woman in the night. | |
| Metric – Front Row Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is so stylish and so modern. And so are the lyrics. Ofc it's about "worshiping" an artist, but that's just the context. What's important is the (genius) poetry an ambience of the whole song and lyrics. Makes me feel like I'm walking in the city, in the late night, alone, near the road, with the cars passing by me, shining their lights. Makes me dream like never else did before. | |
| Pixies – All Over The World Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I don't think it's about few self-esteem. I think it's like feeling trapped in a programmed, meaningless existence. "time is an arranger, I am a derrangement" sums it all up | |
| Metric – Satellite Mind Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| can't* be explained by words | |
| Metric – Satellite Mind Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This is one of those lyrics that doens't mean anything, and yet mean a million things that can be explained by words. Very abstract, mind-opening, cool, modern, rocking. Perfect :D | |
| 13th Floor Elevators – She Lives (In A Time Of Her Own) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| no comments wtf...?? best lyrics ever!! | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Dream Again Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Mind-blowing! | |
| Franz Ferdinand – What She Came For Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
"So say something stupid You know that you love to" Here lies the meaning of the song. It's about say stupid stuff that sounds cool and frees your mind, like Franz Ferdinand do all along this song (and many others). And ofc, is there's hot girls, parties and drinks in the mix, it's total heaven! |
|
| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Little Wing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
My opinion is that this song can be about a free-spirited woman that wants to share her love with more than one man (beautiful idea), about Jimi's guardian angel, about the memory of his mom, all that. But more generally, I think it's about his imagination. His psychedelic imagination, that with its circus ming, running wild thru the clouds, and only thinking of butterflies and fairy tales, saves him, when he's sad, from the "unfreedom" and greyness of the world. Gives freedom to his spirit. |
|
| Vivian Girls – The End Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think this is a song about the big part of the people, the "average" people, who chose to be average in order to get to happiness and spiritual well-being more easily and faster. But most of them don't, most of them end up living on lies, on fake smiles, on hypocrisy, and the voice of this song is just telling them: "I don't care. I told you so, you lazy minded bitches." |
|
| Wavves – No Hope Kids Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
"got no friends got no family just a bunch of people have been put around me" ouch, that was a hard one, even for Wavves! |
|
| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Shit why are 99% of the people so close minded... This song in not about drugs, is not about a girl, is not about a dream, is not about an acid trip... It's about all that! It's about a state of mind, a "purple haze" state of mind! It's about his madness, his passion! Who cares if he was a stoner or not. He was one of the wildest, greatest musicians ever, that's all that matters to me. |
|
| Between the Buried and Me – Selkies: The Endless Obsession Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Very pleased to read such an intelligent comment. Even thought I think it's not that simple. Maybe World Leader 1 wants to have the ultimate atomic bomb because, if he doesn't, and World Leader 2 has it, and if World Leader 2 is crazy, he will threat/blackmail World Leader 1. Then, it's the people who'd end up paying with another world war. But I definitely agree that we're living in a massive lie. I simply believe that technology went too far for our skill. The world is just to big and complex to function well. There will probably be a last World War that will tear all this shit down, and then we'll start over again, like in Mad Max, hopefully towards a better way and with better values and humanity. |
|
| Between the Buried and Me – Selkies: The Endless Obsession Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Wow, that was really deep! Makes beautiful sense to me. |

| Reverend Horton Heat – Death Metal Guys Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Stupid stereotyping song. Fuck urban tribes. Music is music. | |
| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Head On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| At least, someone who gets it! | |
| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Head On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This song might be about drugs. This song might be about sex. But those aren't the most important things. First of all, not all lyrics are that concrete. I think these are very subjective. And what's more important in it, is the feeling, the state of mind they want to pass to us. Having that said, I think this song is about... well I love what electric warrior said: "This song makes me feel crazy about being alive". I think you just said it all! I think this song is about someone who gets tired of the second hand living of nowadays ("that second hand living it just won't do"), and wants to start living his life in a more real way (second stanza), and not giving a shit about being politically correct ("and the world could die in pain\and i wouldn't feel no shame\and there's nothing holding me to blame"). It's about being free in your mind. |
|
| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Head On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Get your minds further? Says the guy than says that such a free-minded, subjective lyrics like these are about oral sex. Lol. It's an interpretation. It might even be about it, but not only, and certainly not most importantly. |
|
| Girls – Substance Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Beautiful song! The meaning is simple: it's all in the last lyric. He's saying that he uses drugs to feel high, to feel free, to be able to rock'n'roll all the way, but at the same time he knows it's not good, nor a pure way to do so. Only love is. |
|
| As I Lay Dying – Through Struggle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| ... Or maybe the old man removed his "natural" heart himself first, to put the new one then. Since when he takes away his cape at the end, it shows a circular hole. Maybe he was the one who removed "the deception that he called love", to implant a new one, built be his own. | |
| As I Lay Dying – Through Struggle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I agree with everything that's been said here. I'd just like to add that I love the dark feeling of these lyrics. I love the fact that they are Christians, and still have such a dark, raw vision, which is also very profound. I think the song is about the recognition that life is a bitch, existence and human condition themselves can be big bitches sometimes, and when you get to face them, you can only count on you. You MUST count on you. I think the story present in the videoclip illustrates this wonderfully. The old man hasn't got his heart. Life/existence was bitch enought to steal it, to dilacerate his whole heart. And still he BUILT a new one... he built a heart BY his own, FOR his own... can you imagine how PWNING that is? How wonderfull this metaphor is? The videoclip just blew my mind for that! |
|
| As I Lay Dying – Through Struggle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think you nailed it in that only sentence! | |
| The White Stripes – Hypnotize Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Genius, psychotic, fucked up love song. | |
| The White Stripes – Hypnotize Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Really good interpretation, best here imo! | |
| The Ting Tings – Great DJ Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
TheOtherRainMan, you really got it! This song is so, so good. The chorus has such a great energy and coolness. I relate to it a lot, because from 11-14yrs old my life sucked, I couldn't find a meaning to it. And then I started to go out, have real friends and listening to really good music, enjoying some really good literature and other arts, and I don't think all this has made the world a livelier place for me... I think it has saved my soul...! It's songs like this one, genius magical summaries of feelings, situations and states-of-mind, that save our souls, indeed. |
