Leonard Cohen – The Future Lyrics 12 years ago
It's stupefying how the concept of irony can be lost on so many people. By the looks of it, the future might be bleaker than even Cohen foresees here.

Leonard Cohen – Diamonds in the Mine Lyrics 12 years ago
The "man of energy" and "revolution's pride" that "trained a hundred women just to kill an unborn child" is actually Charles Manson, whose followers murdered then-pregnant actress Sharon Tate. It's a common misconception (and an understandable one, particularly after the release of "The Future"), but this, by his own admission, wasn't what Cohen had in mind when writing the song.

Leonard Cohen – Don't Go Home with Your Hard-On Lyrics 12 years ago
Becoming a hairdresser is not a typically masculine aspiration, and herein, I believe, is the significance. Cohen slyly likens the emasculating effects of the narrator's inability to coax carnal satisfaction out of his lover (or, for that matter, the girls "that smile you down to your knees") to becoming a hairdresser.
