Took me a while to realise that the 'he' and 'she' in the first two verses are both talking to the singer rather than each other. It's obviously about a boyfriend sleeping with another woman but I don't understand the line 'I'm another too endless' or is it 'I'm another to end less'? |

This is my favourite AM song. It seems very personal. There can't be many love songs that don't mention the word 'love'. 'I hear your voice in silences' is a great thing to write in a valentine card. Unless you're giving it to a noisy bitch! :-) |

It's already been said but Balaclava is slang for a condom. The songs about underage teenage sex. In the last verse the girl (the quiet one ones are the worst) wants the boy not to wear a condom but he resists. Sensible chap! |

You've got to say that there aren't many songs about transvestites shooting up heroin, commiting murder and performing oral sex. The Velvet Underground orignal is amazing. A live studio recording that lasts over 17 minutes. The keyboard player goes off on one and turns up his amp way too high. It's genius. I've also got concert recordings that are completely different musically and last over 30 minutes. |

I have never worked out if 'I put my trust in you' is as in the past tense ie I put my trust in you and you betrayed it or as in the present tense I'm putting my trust in you don't let me down. Also does anyone know where the immortalists reference comes from? |

'The Levee' (The Levy?) was a bar that closed (hence 'dry') meaning that the locals had to go into the city of Rye to get a drink. The lyrics are 'Whisky in Rye' but are playfully misleading. |

I think there are lots of drugs references here. The song is probably about someone giving them up or being made to give them up by a loved one. 'Can't get full' implys 'the munchies' and 'take my shakes' withdrawal. Also if in the song 'The Good Ones' little sisters's eyes are so wide because she's on drugs then 'my eyes are spiky and small' may mean the opposite. However some drugs would constrict your pupils so the whole song could be about the effects of taking drugs taking rather than withdrawal from them. |
