Counting Crows – Anna Begins Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My opinion is that it is about a guy and a girl who have been dating and like each other and have come to a point where its time to become more serious or go their separate ways. Both are afraid of getting hurt which is causing the indecision. The guy's friend says for it to be love it has to be "all or nothing". The guy in the relationship is rationalizing that "I'm sure there's something in a shade of grey" because the relationship is in the in between stage (friends with benefits). Its comfortable and hes in no real danger of being hurt. The woman is thinking the same thing "if this is love then were gonna have to think about the consequences" but is so scared that she is "shaking" at the thought of it. She eventually in the next verse says "I'm not ready for this sort of thing". From the middle of the song to the end it shows as he gets more into her and shows his feelings more she moves away "This time when kindness falls like rain It washes her away and Anna begins to change her mind "These seconds when I'm shaking leave me shuddering for days," she says And I'm not ready for this sort of thing" Then later in the song she starts show more affection and interest in him and he pretty much cuts her out of his life "Her kindness bangs a gong It's moving me along and Anna begins to fade away It's chasing me away She disappears and Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing" How many times have we played tug a war with each others hearts because we cant seem to get on the same page? When whats really going on is we are so paralyzed by the thought we might get hurt that when it seems like what we wanted is about to happen we run away. Anyone relate to that? |
Ray LaMontagne – Jolene Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think Ray is singing about a woman who loves him but he is unable to change. He has lost her along with everything else Hence "I sold my coat when i hit spokane" just to buy a pack of cigs. When he says "he ain't about to go Straight" meaning he is still unwilling to change. I think Ray is talking partly about addiction along with talking about losing his wife due to the lifestyle touring has caused him to live. I recently watched a VH1 Storytellers and he told a story about how hard the touring life was while also trying to maintain a decent home life with the woman he loves. I think this songs is about how he is unable to put that life behind him and go straight. He still wants her but is unable to choose what he really wants the life on the road or a life with the woman he loves. The song is describes a man being in a bad spot and wishing he still had a woman like her but he is unable to do anything about it. |
Slightly Stoopid – Wiseman Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think the meaning of this song is that the man that thinks hes a fool is wiser than a man who doesn't. The real fool is the one who thinks he controls is destiny. By thinking he is in control he doesn't practice any humility in his life and relies only upon himself. The man that knows he doesn't have all the answers to life is the much wiser person. Knowledge is really knowing that you don't know!!!!!! If you believe you have all the answers like the man who doesn't feel hes a fool you have a big ego and it makes you to cool for yourself. You are unable to admit your mistakes as well as admit you don't know everything. Favorite slightly stoopid song!!!!!! |
