The dog-end in British slang is a Ciggarette butt. Hence, "Don't let the smoke get in your eye."
And it is windy not Wendy's, a windy in British slang is a children's playhouse.
It's tiresome to see such beautiful lyrics butchered by people trying to force fit it to mean a commercial burger joint in the US. And I'm American, I just asked my British friends and read a few articles.

David J stated in 1990 in the Chicago Tribune that it's:
You want to get away
From the city of LIES
Also it was stated:
You need to put yourself
Back ON THE RACK

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse – Little Girl Lyrics 9 years ago
I don't think he sings "THE SEVEN AND the avalanche your life will show up."
The first word is definitely "'CAUSE"
What I hear is, "CUZ SOME WHERE DOWN the avalanche your life will show up."
Or, "CUZ SLOPING DOWN the avalanche your life will show up."
"Cuz" and "Down" are definitely in that sentence, I'm just not sure what's in between them.
It could even be "seven": "Cuz SEVEN down the avalanche your life will show up."
Or "staring": "Cuz STARING down the avalanche your life will show up."
Anyone else figure it out?

@[tenfortyonepm:14251] I think you're right. No matter how much I want to hear him say something other than "plate" for a second time, that's what I hear too. Thanks for that, it was driving me mad that I couldn't figure out the last word

The Cure – Close to Me Lyrics 10 years ago
@[Gus482sgirl:7616] This is under "my interpretation." Maybe before you criticize someone's opinion of what a song means to them, learn to spell. Heroine is not what I'm talking about. Heroin is. And I have a very personal relationship with the drug, but you don't seem observant enough to see it. Also try hitting the tab up there for "highest rank" comments. It'll tell you what Robert Smith (the lead singer of this band you know nothing about) says. It's about every day being the same over and over. When you're a heroin addict, that's all your days are...they bleed into each other. Seems like you think this song is about "more serious" things like "the birth of a child or waiting for medical results." Bahhaahaa. Yeah, because Robert Smith is always singing about medical results. And he has zero children. It's futile to argue with someone so judgemental and blind that they would try to put someone down based on THEIR INTERPRETATION of a song. Your "heroine" expertise is lacking substance, so don't judge someone else based on your Good Housekeeping knowledge. And after reading your thoughts on the song, I realize you're dense as nails and I'm done schooling you.

Sparklehorse – Eyepennies Lyrics 13 years ago
In many cultures, including American folk lore, cats are thought to steal children's breath. To suck, suffocate, the life out of babes. More specifically, when the child is asleep and the cat is sitting/lying upon on the child's chest. It's in the same vein as the eye penny (coins) lore. The flying monkeys occurred in the Wizard of Oz. And, it turns out, Dorothy was dreaming the whole movie. Bloodsuckers are underneath his bed and the the breath stealer is on top of his bed, so at every turn there's someone or something waiting to drain him. Drain him of his energy, youth, vitality, kindness, innocence, whatever a soul has to give.
The black fumes being gently bled is how slowly your time ticks away. That it's not sudden, it eases you into a false sense of security. But at the end of the day, it's BLACK FUMES! And if you'd taken the time to notice, might've alarmed you.

To me, this song is about childhood's end and the realization of moving towards death everyday. Of sleeping, dreaming = childhood. Waking up = growing up, getting older, realizing death can happen at any time.
About being able to return to that childhood place of buried memories again - but only in dreams.

I don't have the lyrics, but I think it says, "Black fumes of soot so gently bled." Instead of "skin."

The best thing about poems & lyrics is the way it has a different tone, a different meaning for everyone.

Crass – Asylum Lyrics 14 years ago
All you cool punk rockers with your cool names. Jesus, get over your fascist selves. Who cares if people interpret punk lyrics? Maybe it would help dumb asses wake the fuck up! If more people were into finding out what punk lyrics meant, maybe the world wouldn't be filled with such conformity. Maybe not everyone is as smart, as observant, as cool as you. So What? This elitist shit about punk is hypocritical. Interpret all you want. At least we'd be talking about something that means something instead of what Justin Bebeber (I don't care how you spell it) wears to bed. This stupid, "If you have to ask you're not worthy" crap sounds just like the man YOU hate.
