Iron Maiden – Déjà Vu Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I always thought this song was one of Maiden's worst, at least from their glory era, in terms of lyrics. If it's supposed to say anything about the phenomenon of deja vu, well it sounds like a naive child's first encounter with the experience. That's not to say capturing childlike wonder is bad, but this is nothing like that - just very prosaic and uninteresting. Barely even rhymes, and while rhyming isn't always necessary, the worst part is they do attempt one rhyme - "faces" and "places" - a scheme they totally ignore later ("conversation" and "someone" should rhyme). The end result is it just feels like a half-assed mess. If they wrote a similar song, let's say about the phenomenon of losing blood circulation to your leg, it would go something like: When you get out of bed But now you can't, instead you fall Are your legs really there? You cannot feel them But you see they're still there Can you be sure? Feels like there's no legs at all! Feels like there's no legs at all! Feels like there's no legs at all! Feels like there's no legs at all! |

In short, religion, more specifically fear of hellfire, is used to keep the masses in line and toiling away. |

A few good puns in this one: "Little Miss Take" "this dacryphile is turned on by your sighs" "leave so many loose-ends- (thereby hangs my tale)" "that Venus once held me with (ch)arms so fake" |
Skyclad – Cancer Of The Heart Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I don't think it's specifically about religion or love, just that mankind is selfish. "Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was Cancer of the heart" We excuse lacking compassion, and having a competitive attitude, or to put it more harshly, taking a shit on your neighbors, by calling it human nature. Walkyier says we should call it as it is - our hearts have become diseased, corrupted. This doesn't have to be our natural state even if we tend to go that direction. We are all capable of choosing to cure ourselves of this condition ("be your own physician - heal thyself!"). |

Bruce Dickinson – Navigate The Seas Of The Sun Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Amazing. "living death by gravity" - the feeling that the gravity that keeps on Earth is too confining "If god is throwing dice, and Einstein doesn't mind the chance" "If Einstein is throwing dice, and God doesn't mind the chance" A play on the famous "God does not play dice" quote by Einstein. In the original quote, Einstein was expressing his skepticism over quantum science, by saying that the laws of physics are deterministic and nonrandom. Here it means something different, I think simply that religion and science don't know what to expect out there in space, but neither objects to exploration. Iron Maiden – Flash Of The Blade Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Love this song, but one thing that bothers me about these lyrics is it says you'll die "in a corner forgotten by no one." Dying in a corner implies being forgotten by EVERYONE, doesn't it? Also am I the only one who thinks the song is saying the character is living by the sword and so he will die? His obsession with vengeance (via his blade) will end badly. It's not saying, "Yeah go kick ass!!" It's saying, "Well you've got your sword, your purpose and your honor, but you're probably going to die and it won't be glorious." |
