Evanescence – Breathe No More Lyrics 14 years ago
the song is about a person who hides behind a mask and now have lost the cover of that mask.

"I've been looking in the mirror for so long.
That I've come to believe my souls on the other side."

the mirror is her mask (mask as in the alternate persona that she has created to cover up her real self), she's been using it for so long that she has started believing that this mask is the real her. the mirror represents how well the mask had been made, flawless, perfect, at the same time it also portrays the fragile-ness of this mask, how easy it would be to break.

"All the little pieces falling, shatter.
Shards of me,
To sharp to put back together.
To small to matter,
But big enough to cut me into so many little pieces.
If I try to touch her,"

this implies that this mask that she has used for so long has finally broken as someone saw through it. "shards of me" show how well she has come to believe that she is the mask (where in reality, its just what she hid behind). the shards being "too sharp to put back together" represent the pain that she feels as she tries to convince (herself or the person who's seen through her mask probably the latter of the two) as well as her realization that what has been done cannot be undone. "too small to matter" represent that the mask has shattered to such point that these pieces are literally too small to put back together (there are too many errors with it), whereas if she tries to touch them in the sense she tries to meddle with her persona she feels the bitter pain of it being so badly broken now. once understood completely, this scene portrays such brutal and heartbreaking imagery its hard to explain in words.

"And I bleed,
I bleed,
And I breathe,
I breathe no more. "

this basically shows her suffering caused by her persona being broken so badly.

"Take a breath and I try to draw from my spirits well.
Yet again you refuse to drink like a stubborn child."

i don't completely understand this part, but i think spirits well is referring to her personal pain relievers (such as self harming) as spirits are basically another name for light alcohols and she is trying to draw some from her own reservoir (so she's trying to bring some "reinforcements" to the scene by introducing some of her "pain relievers"). however, whoever is "you" referring to, doesn't want to cover this up, "it" is stubborn and wants to go through this without any substance help. (again, i don't fully understand this part)

"Lie to me,
Convince me that I've been sick forever.
And all of this,
Will make sense when I get better."

she wants (perhaps her persona) to make her believe that what she is going through is fake, and when she has gone through it all she will then understand that it wasn't real.

"I know the difference,
Between myself and my reflection.
I just can't help but to wonder,
Which of us do you love."

here we kind of see a loophole, because now it we have to wonder, was the mirror that shattered her persona or actually herself (meaning the whole song if from the persona's point of view) and now she is posing a question to the person that shattered the "mirror" (i won't say persona because it is possible that it was the main character that shattered and this is her persona singing). there is a very twisted dilemma that is posed at this point and its hard to understand it. but once you understand it you see the beauty of it.

thats just what i think the song is about

Evanescence – Even In Death Lyrics 14 years ago
IMO, this song is about a couple, of which one dies, and now the person thats left alive refuse to believe that their lover is dead they start to see their dead lover (hallucinations perhaps, or flashbacks to their time together before one died) "give me a reason to believe that you're gone i see your shadow, so i know they're all wrong" eventually they (the lover that's alive) go crazy b/c of this to such a point that they become schizophrenic "they don't know you can't leave me they don't hear you singing to me".

on another thought, its possible that they are actually connecting from beyond the boundaries of life and death, since the lover that's alive recognizes that the other one is gone "even in death our love goes on" so perhaps the dead lover's soul/ghost still lingers on even after death. but those are just my 2 cents. its all about how you want to interpret it really...

The Pretty Reckless – Make Me Wanna Die Lyrics 14 years ago
fancydragongirl, although that makes sense, i don't think that you can say one is correct or incorrect for that matter, cuz its a song and therefore is left upto the listener's interpretations. as long as you have a reason to believe what you believe then its correct. IMO a good piece of music is the one that doesn't necessairly have a set meaning, instead it depends on the listener for the meaning. i too agree with codeh, i feel like character is portraying that the one she loves apparently thinks of her as worthless piece of shit and although she had all these choices she wasted em all to try and get him.

The Pretty Reckless – He Loves You Lyrics 14 years ago
i thought more along the lines that "if he loves you he loves you not" cuz shes not who he thinks she is cuz in the 1st parag it mentions that just play along even though inside you're a broken soul. so she is really wearing this "mask" and appears to be something she isn't in reality, and if he loves her, he loves her for what she seems to be and the who she is behind the mask. but thats just my interpretation

to me, this song is very personal to me. the few interpretations that i skimmed over talk about it being about a relationship with another person (and by no means am i saying that its not) but my interpretation is slightly different. to me, this song is about a person, a troubled, innocent kid, who never really knew what the world is like and as s/he experiences the life's hardships, s/he begins to experience real life and starts to change; starts to lose innocent, without proper guidance and unwillingly. s/he seeks different ways to get through it (in this case self injury "cut your palms") and as s/he does, she consciously takes note of how s/he's losing her innocent "drip your ruby red, over the casket, a funeral for my once loved youth" *side note* pain/self injury might have been personified as this second person (as the "instructor" telling this person how to get through this time) and as s/he is losing her innocent, youthful days, s/he tells this second person (which sort of shows that the person might be mentally sick as s/he is personifying pain/self harm and treating it as a real person)that s/he is willing to die for him/her and asks if s/he would do the same for him/her (the first person)

in the ninth stanza (goodbyes are said roses are thrown), the person has now unwillingly, and in an unpleasant way, lost his/her innocence, and now that the innocent's "dead body" has been buried, the person wants it back, s/he wants to be that innocent little child s/he used to be again "But the irony of the story is when I fell to my knees, and began clawing at the dirt in front of the tombstone, of my bashful childhood" and this second person (perhaps something mental/personified) is telling him/her that whats done is done, and its time to move on, however, the first person does not want it to end like this, s/he wants to lose her innocence more willingly and through events and with people which are much more meaningful to him/her "And I'm screaming at the top of my lungs,'The ceremony was not proper, there was not enough people'"

really quite the masterpiece. again, this is just my interpretation. there is no right or wrong. no song has just one meaning as meanings only exist when a listener interprets the song, and since there are so many different types of people interpreting a song, there tend to be countless different meanings
