"You might end up M.I.A. in Ethiopia"?
Given the fact that she's naming countries and the video, I think that this is in part about nationalism. It's like a defiance of the concept that you somehow owe some kind of affinty to the state that you were born in.
I think it's Locke's (I might be wrong about that) social contract theory which states you give tacit consent to a state by remaining within its borders. Hence the line "my car won't start so I'm stuck here"...you can't necessarily afford to get out. Besides which, the state is an overarching structure, ever more encroaching on our lives (hence the opening line) and wherever you go in the world you can't escape it.
But I might be totally wrong, and even if I'm not it's obviously about a lot more. |

Since the age of enlightenment, man had ultimate faith in science, rationality became the new doctrine of the world to replace Christianity. With the power of science he could conquer the world, and he continued in the belief that he was a) always right, and b) totally invincible. By the middle of the twentieth century, it was completely out of control, the whole human race could be wiped out at the flick of a switch. |

When luck or fortune comes to you, and you've been pulled up above the rest, there's always someone left behind. But you can't afford to care about them. You got there because you've been chosen, because you're more deserving. |
