I think the opening verse goes something more like this: Holding my breath Last one I've got left Till I see you Deliver my heart With the pieces and parts of me left Every last day seemed to carry the weight Of a lifetime I watch from the ground As the gold fluttered down From the sky -- This song sounds like heaven to me. Pure and heartfelt. There's a kind of yearning that's softened by a peace and patience that permeates every second of this song, and I love it. And what better way is there to paint a picture of a sunset without actually saying what it is? |

This song focuses on what matters in the end, past all the obstacles and hardships life throws at you - following your heart and not letting yourself get washed away without a firm hold on your own approach to life. Even if things get hard, even if you feel like you just can't or don't want to keep getting up again, you should because you know you'll get through it one way or another ("But when I lose sight of daylight/ and my darkness falls/ I'll be strong" ... "I know enough to know it's never gonna be much more than weather/ you can't drive me away/ when it's only rain"). "The coastline going both ways" to me is the whole emotional spectrum, from being confident and sure of yourself, to being down and out, wondering if you're doing the right thing and if it matters at all. "And fearless I'm not/ But I am what I am" and other lines recognize flaws that you can have but can also stand up to and push through, living your life despite them. I also really like the line "It may be all that I'm giving/ But take my love for what it is" because it asserts an individual contribution to the world - it's not perfect, or everything, but it's in good faith and better than nothing. I love the simultaneous vulnerability and courage that Sara weaves into the lyrics - layering conviction over insecurity and doubt, celebrating the silver lining but including the dark clouds that give the glow its shape. Great song to relate to! |

| The line "How much do you go to be gone" doesn't sound quite right to me, but I can't pinpoint what it actually is. My best guess is "I'm on till you go to be gone". | |

There are a few lines that sounded different to me. Here's what I got: Little girl, little town, little left to say Hard enough to get out, much less get away Speak your mind if you dare to be heard I warn you, I’m very daring with words I was wild and untamed, on the hunt for myself Got your claws in my mane, as if I need help Made my mask, made my dress Did your best to make me You came first, now at last Hear what I heard you say (You want me) you want me (To believe) to believe That if you wanna stick around You better settle down, stay in one place Don’t you mess around, and wear a little blush on your face Be a good girl, good girls are what we need Wear it if you can, take it like a man Remember your place Get your diamond ring, don’t say a thing A lady has grace And good girls, good girls are what we need Well, get your good girls and get the hell away from me Stake your claim, your possession, all over me Make your aim my obsession, till what you want I need Bind my feet, cut my hair Tell me who you think I should be Gotten used to thin air, but someday you’re gonna see me (You want me) you want me (To believe) to believe That if you wanna stick around You better settle down, stay in one place Don’t you mess around, and wear a little blush on your face And be a good girl, good girls are what we need Wear it if you can, take it like a man Remember your place Get your diamond ring, don’t say a thing A lady has grace And good girls, good girls are what we need Well, get your good girls and get the hell away from me Whisper to me, just wait and you will see Things are changing so quickly I give up, I give out and I’m down on my knees And you smile as you say finally, I know what you need, yeah We are the same thing, just give it changing You’re the good girl, what does that mean? You’re the good girl, what does that mean? Dare you, be strong, dare you Dare you, live long, dare you Dare you, be proud, dare you Dare you, live loud, dare you, oh Good girl |
