Coldplay – O Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is so beautiful, it embodies the catharsis of the relationship. After all the pain and suffering because of the end of the relationship, he is finally releasing his loved one, and thus, his pain.

After hearing the whole album, we can tell that he loves her greatly, and he knows she is a magical, one of a kind person, and after all the mourning and all the grief, he finally lets her go, and watches her fly by, like flocks of birds.

I love the "flock of birds" analogy. It can't be any more true, because love in one's life is just like that. Persons come and go from our lives, and so does love. Anybody that has been in this situation knows how hard it is to let go of a person that one has loved so, so deeply, especially when things don't work anymore and there is nothing else to do, but to each go on in separate ways. So we release them, but that doesn't mean we stop loving them (hence, the "don't ever let go" at the end of the song). No matter what, that person is always going to be part of our lives, and is always going to occupy a big space in our hearts, and we always think that maybe, just maybe, sometime in the future, life can bring us both together again with the right circumstances. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is clearly written from a third person's point of view. He knows that he is the other man, but he is sick of sharing her with another man, he "wants it all".

The "coming out of my cage" part, I interpret it as if she has him locked and only lets him out of his cage whenever she wants. Like a caged animal ("coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine, gotta gotta be down because I want it all") that is only let out for his owner's own amusment.

I think he could be referring to the color of the girl's aura, or her energy. It is said that every person emanates color depending on their state of mind/body/spirit, though it can only be detected with a special camera that capturates it. In any case, amber means "individual strength and courage", and golden yellow ("shades of gold display naturally") means "inspirational thought". No matter what he really meant, if it was the name of a girl, or even the color of the girl's hair, I think is a beautifull song :)

Peter Bjorn and John – Objects of My Affection Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is so uplifting. I think everybody can relate to this song at some point or another in their own lives. Clearly, it speaks about moving on forward to another stage in life... and leaving behind all that dead weight behind, old habits, fears, and inhibitions. I think that in previous years, what he thought was happiness was really the opposite (And the question is was I more alive then than I am now? I happily have to disagree. I laugh more often now, I cry more often now... I am more me), like maybe he was in a stage of numbness; he did not feel anything. But now, he feels every emotion, he feels more like himself, he feels the breath of life upon him, and all the beautiful things it has to offer... including taking the chance of falling in love again, apparently with someone he was not expecting to come into his life in any way (just because some things start differently, doesn't mean it's worth less).

So beautiful <3

So beautiful.

Arcade Fire – Haiti Lyrics 13 years ago
I am a native puertorrican too! And I was happy to find out that Regine is a native from Haiti even though Haiti's situation can never be compared to that of our little island's, at least not in the present. Anyways, I can feel come of that Caribbean vibe in this song; although the melody is sad I can sense a little bit of cheerfulness through the melody.

The Cure – A Letter to Elise Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is the most beautiful, heartbreaking song ever written. It is about accepting that all love is gone; and that he just can't hold on and live in the past, on happier times already gone. It shows that he really tried to hold on, but the whole situation was hopeless, too damaged to have anything left to save... and he is tired of pretending there is nothing wrong, although she is, he can't pretend anymore, and he is letting it go, very painfully, but accepting that there is not anything left of what once was.

The Beatles – While My Guitar Gently Weeps Lyrics 13 years ago
I hadn't actually paid any attention to this song until santana's cover with yo-yo ma and india arie. It is beautiful, you all should check it out.

Ok firstly, I do not agree with any of the comments above. I do not think George meant for this to be a love song, at all. This is an elegy, a lament, for the decadence of the world and society in general. George was the one Beatle that brought the spirituality (not RELIGION, but spirituality) to the group, being a Hare Krishna devotee (and bhakti- bhakti meaning devotion- yogi) for a great part of his life. The Hare Krishna movement as well as some other Hindu elements were a big influence for George's writing.

This is the song how I interpret it, and interpreting it from a spiritual point of view:

"I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps "

the first line is my favorite line. he senses a lot of potential in people, a lot of hope, a lot of capacity to love in every human on Earth; but nevertheless it is sleeping, it isn't yet awakened. It is there, we all have it, but it is not yet awoken. We can all be extraordinary, great human beings, he still haven't reached or full potential yet because it is sleeping within us. These same lines are repeated at the end of the song, i don't think it is a coincidence. He is reminding ourselves of all the potential we have. I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping, he is encouraging us to observe where is it that we are standing on; if where we are at in our lives is beneficial for us, if we need to get rid of bad habits in order to live a prosperous life.

"I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold you love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you"

Yet again, he senses the potential, the capacity of us human beings to love and do great things, but we just don't know yet how to reach our full potential to do good. It is there alright, but folded; unused, untouched. We have forgotten how to love because of all of the distractions and banalities society has put upon us; we have lost touch with our soul, our soul and spirit is controlled by everyone but us; we are all machines, incapable of loving.

"I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps "

He sees the world and everyone being indifferent and untroubled by all the chaos going on. The world keeps spinning, and yet he just sits back and lets all his agony and helplessness flow through the notes of his guitar. Yet, he still has hope that we all can learn from our mistakes before it is too late to save ourselves, to save our soul and spirit.

"I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you"

He can't understand why people don't see hoe distracted they are from their true nature, from their inner selves. He are all corrupted and perverted, and yet we think that there is nothing wrong with us, that we are all 'normal', when the truth is that we are living in a lie.

I hope that after reading it you can see it from my point of view, which I hope is somewhat accurate on what George truly meant by writing it. I am sorry if it is a bit unclear, English is not my first language. I understand what every word in the song means, but when I try to traduce what I think to English it kinda gets lost in translation ^_^
