I agree w/ penguinOtaku...As the meaning of the song...Pas de cheval..Step of the horse makes more sense. It could be dance..but I've also heard it as a fumble, to take a bad step, etc. This whole album is about love...You could take it in a way of loving God too. but this is my take on it. Oh, little did she know couldn't let me go already a part of her: She's denying her feelings about him or she really doesn't know how much she's connected and relies on him. So often do I meet people in between, that just can't get a hold of it: other couples just can't get that perfect relationship in the movies. or he knows people that keep looking and kind find anything or are doing something wrong. So we'll just sing it for them: be an example i guess. We'll be that perfect couple. I don't find the chorus that cocky...just trying to convince her. Saying that LOVE could be the greatest thing to ever happen and just imagine falling in love w a guy like me-knowing me on a higher level...you can trust me etc. just give me a chance.. But you'll never know 'til you're there: just give it a try. That's where the title ties in-it's okay to fumble but you can't find the right one unless u try. Slow, leave walking to the world. Give your feet a chance, they'll do all the thinking: again. just go with it. Let your feelings show and everything should just come naturally. Toast high until they find less pathetic wine, until they get a better blend: similar to first verse of being an example. Same with we'll just drink it for them. Sooo....basically take a chance on love, don't hide feelings. It's okay to make mistakes until you get there. that's just how i see it. |

This song is tragic and beautiful, I agree. The instruments are slow and depressing-especially the bass. I can only imagine the troubles this person is in, the conflict he is having with himself, assuming he could have been the cause of this accident it sounds like. He sounds hopeless, or on the verge of losing all hope. The disparity in his voice tugs at my heart strings. I agree with Love BreakUp Songs.He waits for her, he's loyal. It expresses what's going on beyond their realm as she sits on a threshold and he hopes for her life. But not only that, the words paint a vivid image of Janie in my head and I feel sorrow. I can see the small description of the accident as if the adrenaline had been pumping so much and fast that all he really recalls are the major bits and pieces. He pleads to know she's fine, but no matter what he knows she isn't. "I see you now only in pieces," either she's got lots of broken bones and injuries, or she's slipping away from him and dying. I think of a hospital with the words hopeless cathedral added with blankets and needles. The part of asking what his hope is to look like-the music becomes darker and stops. Then after silence it picks up in speed as if hes gone into a rage. I like the line "dreams are for dreaming, buckets for bleeding. Eyes are for seeing, but you'll still be sleeping." Either he knows what's going to happen and is pessimistic. Or the worse thing did happen and she couldn't survive. He's given up. |
