Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's a song about a drug induced suicide and what happenes after It's two a.m. the fear has gone (He's done the deed. No more fear) I'm sitting here waitin' the gun still warm (Waiting for the ambulance/police to arrive..the gun is STILL WARM so it just happened) Maybe my connection is tired of taken chances (His dealer told him earlier that this was it. No more deliveries. The guy's getting too obvious) Yeah there's a storm on the loose sirens in my head (It's starting to rain outside (a popular trope for when bad things happen) the ambulance is there) I'm wrapped up in silence all circuits are dead (Wrapped up in a body bag or covered by a sheet. The "circuits" are nerves in your body) I cannot decode (He's dead) my whole life spins into a frenzy (He's experiencing the "song" in the moments just after suicide wondering where it all went wrong) Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone (The twighlight zone is the "between world" between this life and the next) The place is a madhouse (Describing his life in general) Feels like being blown ("Blown away" has 2 connotations. The obvious first meaning and a second describing life again. Blown from place to place) My beacon's been moved under moon and star (The light on top of an ambulance or police car is called a beacon, he's being moved) Where am I to go Now that I've gone too far (He doesn't know his Fate after death...unsure of what awaits him "over there") Soon you will come to know When the bullet hits the bone (He's about to find out, since the bullet hit the bone in his skull) I'm falling down a spiral (Again a double meaning. Either his last sight of the rifling spiral inside of the pistol he shot himself with and/or the "Tunnel of Light" that some near-death experiencers have) destination unknown (Again, unsure of what Fate awaits him) A double crossed Messenger (His ultimate may be revealed here. The word "Angel" means "Messenger", however, in "Paradise Lost", The Angel Lucifer isn't so much an evil spirit as one who was "double-crossed" by God and Jesus) all alone (No one to blame for this, except himself) I can't get no connection I can't get through Where are you (His lament to God, his sorrow for what he's done and a question as to why God wouldn't answer him while he was alive) Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind (Guilt over what he's done) This far from the borderline (Realizing it's too late to worry about it all now. His Fate is sealed) And when the hitman comes He knows damn well he has been cheated (The Angel of Death/The Grim Reaper, by ending his life prematurely he's cheated God's hitman out of taking his life) And he says (The refrain takes on a new meaning here. Now the "Help" is a plea, because the twighlight zone is ending. Twighlight occurs before full light AND full dark. It's the halfway point and now he realizes that he's headed to the Dark where the place is a "madhouse") |
War – Spill The Wine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The chorus alternates between "DIG THAT GIRL" then "TAKE THAT PEARL". the song idea concept came from literally spilling the wine on the keyboard that they used in the studio. The girl speaking Spanish was Eric Burden's g/f at the time, they set up a TENT in the studio, and when she and Eric were doing their thing in it, they recorded what she said to lay over the studio track. "DIG" is a hippie euphamism for "like" ;the "PEARL" is of course a sexual reference to a womans anatomy. The rest (leaking gnomes, green grass) comes from lyrics that Eric was already working on when the song came together. The song in toto is a celebration of the beauty of all women.
