| Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think this song is about being in love, the line "they'll make a statue of us" is a reference to the feeling that they are something new and wonderful and a love like their's has never been seen before and when people realize this they will immortalize them, and the only place worthy of that statue is somewhere grand and epic, like a mountain top. They'll name a city after us, similar sentiment to above. Our parts are slightly used refers to previous relationships and "new ones are slave labour you can keep" is a way of saying having children. Living in a den of thieves - no idea life and love are contagious. |

| I think the candy symbology is something like people like and gives them quick gratification but is ultimately bad for them. Think of as many parallels as you like. | |

| Not every lyric has a literal meaning, you can't translate poetry into prose. The theme and motif of this song is fairly straight forward it's about growing up, growing apart and the death of youthful dreams turning into grim acceptance of the status quo that is mediocre. The line "so you swear you just saw a feathery woman carry a blindfolded man through the trees" is about making something extraordinary up to relieve the dullness | |
| Built to Spill – Kicked It in the Sun Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"Backwashed thoughts And you made me talk No, you made me listen" Thinking about a relationship which is over, and how they really opened up, heard and was heard. "There's a feeling from Ada to Irene (Neighbourhoods in Boise) There's something There's nothing you haven't seen" Jaded-ness and a feeling of identifying with others who share it. "Tiny TV On at three So serene No place to be alone" Not very wealthy, sitting up late (perhaps no 9am job to go to) no real hassles or troubles, however he feels the turmoil in his head which is about his stagnant life, how his insides feel contrast his daily existence. "So come on over, yeah Let's sit down a little while Some wine You will find the same things The same things The same things The same things The same things" Come on over, why not? Getting to know someone, to drink and talk and relax and fuck, this is life, in me you will find things similar to you, we're not unique, we've done this before with other people, but here we go again, I still want to. "By the time you read this You kicked it in the sun It was all that you could do How could you refuse? And you kicked it in the sun It was all you had to do And you kicked it in the sun It was all you had to do How could you refuse? And you kicked it in the sun It was wrong and it was rude And you kicked it in the sun It was wrong and it was rude How could you refuse? And you kicked it in the sun" They didn't care enough they blew him/you/them off for something inconsequential and you/they/he feels he could have offered them a better time. "It's alright now I'm getting over getting mine It's alright now I'm getting over getting mine" This song is a reflection, they don't feel terrible now about the things that happened even if they once did, but he's also saying this relationship was a big one (he got his) as in this was something special to him. "He seemed so unashamed of how he operated Corresponds to the facts that you want Despite his expectations He turned out mediocre His master plan was so-so We're special in other ways Ways our mothers appreciate" We do our best but in the end for most of use our hopes and dreams fade into a casual acceptance of the lives we have, which are "mediocre", however each and everyone of us is unique and special even if our mothers are the only ones who see the ways. "That net does not make me feel safe All those holes make me nervous" It's not enough as something to hold onto. "He woke up late that morning Went to the window and saw the sun had stopped its shining So, so" More feelings of being jaded, nothing matters, life goes on. "We're special in other ways Ways our mothers appreciate We're special in other ways Ways our mothers appreciate We're special We're special " |
